Guest guest
I have just joined yesterday and already I am very impressed with it. I am 25, used to live in PA (went to Wharton) now live in Los Angeles and work in Finance. I was diagnosed with CMT when I was 4. As I read some of the past posts, the one/s on bullying of CMT children really struck me. I was bullied by kids when in public junior high - they made fun of the way I walked - up on my toes, and I was called some strange names. But I had plenty of friends who stuck up for me nonetheless, it was hard to bear. I went to a private high school and had no problems with the bully bit - it just wasn't done and I expect such behavior wouldn't be tolerated. I still am a bit up on my toes, especially at the end of a long day - but I change shoes at the office a couple of times through the day and that seems to help. My shoes are Durham and Mephisto and they have been redesigned for me especially with orthotic supports inside. My days are often 10-12 hours, and I am up and down and on my feet throughout this time. I am tired by the time I get home, but I recharge with what I call a " power break " (10 minutes of complete quiet on the couch - at lunch, if I don't have a meeting or errands, etc., I also close my office door and get 10 minutes of a power break then) I really like the slogan of Can Manage This for CMT here! I hope I will learn more useful ideas about life with CMT though this group.
