Guest guest
I noticed the same thing with my son. Since birth he preferred the fetal position. He loved cuddling up. I didn't know what to think of it. I mentionned it to the Dr and that is when he did the Adam hold. His curve could only be seen when in the hold at 3 months. We saw an ortho in saskatoon 6wks after the first xray. Funny thing she didn't do another xray to see if it had changed. I was told to wait 6 months before our next visit. Within 2 months I noticed the rib hump and requested another appt. We got in and she still wants to wait and see cause some curve will hold, improve or progress. I wish that I had gotten a second opinion sooner. I know that we will now have to wait another 3 months or more to see someone else. I would keep an eye on it and if you notice any changes let your Dr know. They may be able to get you in sooner. If you are seeing a physio they can write a letter indicating that there has been a change. My physio wrote a letter b\c ate noticed the change in my son as well. We got in within 2 wks. Just remember that some curves are self resolving. Your daughter does have a low curve so that is positive. Just stay positive and know that you are doing everything that you can for her. You are on the right track. I know that it is an emotional roller coaster. I have shed many tears. Hello to another Canuck :)Hmmm - the ped doesn't want to wait and see per say, rather she wants to " wait and see the specialist " . She's stated very clearly that baby needs physio for her back at the least, but doesn't want that started until after we've seen the specialist and ruled out anything more serious causing the curve. She does say that baby may well outgrow this, but doesn't believe she'll outgrow it without some help (physio). No idea on the wait at BCCH, and don't know what they do for scoliosis there. I've spent a ton of time at their orthopedic clinic as of late for my son, who had a bone tumour removed (benign) and a bone graft done. Ironically, I've had baby with me while there, but the appointments weren't for her. I know for my son, he got in very quickly (within two weeks of the xray that showed his tumour), but in his case they were worried it was cancer (urgent).Baby's first contact with the ped about this was when she was just shy of 10 weeks. The pediatrician could see what I was talking about and immediately sent us for xrays, which came back showing the 13* curve (had them done that day). The ped got the films back when baby was 12 weeks old and saw baby. Observed that there's changes in the curve she could see since last visit (baby's back starting to bulge out) and put in a referral to see an ortho. She's now just shy of 14 weeks and is visibly a bit worse. The curve to the side (she tilts to her right) is the same, but her ribs are starting to bulge out in the back on her left now. Waiting to see the ortho at BCCH.I guess if I don't hear back from BCCH by Wednesday, I'll call and bug them again about an appointment...Good luck with your son!> > > > >While on the one hand I'm sad to be here, on the other I'm glad to see there's such a great online support community available > > >> > >My beautiful baby girl has some form of scoliosis - still going through diagnosis to determine whether it's progressive or not, but it's looking that way.> > >> > >I first noticed when she was about 3 weeks old that she always leaned to the right, but with this being my first baby thought maybe it was normal and would go away. Guest guest
We go to SLC because Portland, at the time when we started last April, was not doing Mehta style EDF casting, but where more than willing to do Risser casting. Which is why Dr R at BCCH was so convinced that we where simply stalling getting Kieran casted. He was surprised when I told him that we wanted to go to SLC instead but more than willing to let us go, and eager to see what the results where from SLC as he was used to not seeing results from Portland. He was very pleased with SLC's cast and the results and has also decided, now that he is aware of the difference (and before he even saw Kieran's cast) to get EDF training directly from Dr D of SLC when he does training this December in Halifax. , if you read this -- Dr R is in Vancouver BC, Canada and the training is in Halifax, the two places are further apart than San Diego and New York City, Vancouver is on the pacific west coast and Halifax is on an island of Nova Scotia (not that I've ever been there)off the Atlantic coast. I have no idea how many Canadian Doctors are attending or how well trained the Drs will be after. I don't know if it is a training session piggy backing on another convention, or training for the sake of training, I had thought I had heard somewhere that there was a scoliosis convention at the same time in Halifax, but I really don't have my facts except that Dr R in British Columbia is getting training from Dr D in Halifax this December. Sorry for the segue, if you want to try to get seen at SLC I would recommend getting Dr D's care coordinator's phone number and calling her or writing to Dr D as it is very hard to get into SLC from Canada as they have channels to go through and I was unable to get there through them. I recommend calling Hyatt on the phone to see what her best advice is and what kind of info she can give you. With the ribs sticking out it sounds to me like it should definitely be watched, but if it took until your child was a year old +/- to get casting just so you can watch and see if physio will resolve it I imagine your child would benefit as much as if you where to start today not knowing if it will resolve or not. I could be mistaken of course, I would check with a qualified doctor. Sorry, my kids are jumping around lol, I forgot to say that there was Mehta style EDF casting training on the West Coast and I believe that Portland attended back in June I think it was, and also more recently, but I do not know if they have purchased the correct frame or if they have decided to switch to EDF casting you would have to check but I am sure if they have they would be eager to tell anyone who asked. Good luck! We don't have our appointment set yet, but we're well on our way of arranging.Thank you to Heidi (from one SoCal to another), for giving me some info that helped with SLC. Guest guest
, That is great! I have heard wonderful things about SLC, the staff and Dr.s there so we are so excited to be going! The care coordinator is great, just make sure you get all your daughters records, images, etc. to them ASAP...and be persistent I learned that the squeaky wheel gets the grease I was anxious too about the approaching 3rd bday but we are wishing for all the best Good luck to you and your angel! > > > > > > > Great news, ! Guest guest
My trouble is "too fresh tamato-ee" tasting. I made the garden blend recipe yesterday. I never could just eat a plain tomato, but like everything made with them. I can eat some in salads etc. I want to make a good vegetable drink, that may have tomato in it, but not such A strong tomato taste. I will keep experimenting. K -- Hello! I ordered my Vita-mix this weekend. (I had already ordered it before the vitamixlady.com site so I hope I didn't get too rooked on the price) I did have a code for free shipping though., I am a highly picky eater, and my problem is mostly consistency. I love fruit smoothies though so I am eagerly looking forward to having a machine that will do "green" smoothies. ------------------------------------
Guest guest
In the beginning of my using the Vitamix, several flavors were a bit too strong. Try less......of the ingredient you don't particularly like and gradually over time, I bet your taste will adjust and what was too much tomato in the beginning won't be after a few times making the recipe. I thought that way about banana and I have definitely adjusted. > > My trouble is " too fresh tamato-ee " tasting. I made the garden blend recipe > yesterday. Guest guest
It is hard to get rooked on the price since Vitamix is so firm on their retail prices. There isn't a whole lot of difference between retail and the sales - usually - so just look eagerly forward to your new machine's arrival and get ready to LOVE IT! and WELCOME! :-) Blessings,Lea Ann SavageSatellite Beach, FL(321) 773-7088 (home)(321-961-9219 (cell)))><'>www.VitamixLady.comwww..com<))>< On Feb 6, 2011, at 1:51 PM, justdeb123 wrote: I ordered my Vita-mix this weekend. Guest guest
I was thinking of adding half an apple to this recipe too as well as lessening the amount of tomato. I think you are correct how our tastes change. I want this whole foods thing to work. It only makes sense. Guest guest
Thank you for letting me join the group. My name is and I have 2 daughters that live at my house with me age 13 and 10. I have minimally vaccinated since my youngest was born and my oldest was 4. My youngest daughter was born with multiple heart, bladder and kidney defects and has recently acquired pertusis unfortunately. We are under scrutiney right now and praying that a) she heals quickly and that noone else she has been around gets sick. So far if anyone is sick with even a cold IT MUST BE OUR FAULT. Ridiculous. People are assuming that its only a non vaccinated thing in which case that information is inaccurate. I was told by the Health Dept that pertusis affects vaccinated and unvaccinated. People are so deceived. Anyway, thank you for including us. ____________________________________________________________Woman is 53 But Looks 25Mom reveals 1 simple wrinkle trick that has angered doctors...ConsumerLifestyleMag.com
Guest guest
Dear : I am sorry your family is going thru this right now. We had it over the winter, not an easy illness but easy enough to get over given the right supplements and rest. We used Vit.D3 (Carlsson drops about 4000IU per day), Vit.C (about 5 grams per day) and also took Astragalus tincture according to the bottle directions and Echinacea/Goldenseal Herbs for Kids tincture according to bottle directions. We did a LOT of couch sitting and sleeping. We drank bone broths with lots of fresh garlic and ginger in the broths, which are very healing. My kids were over it in 2 weeks and I took 3 weeks to get fully over it. If you start now you could be over it shortly. I wouldn't mention it to anyone, they think taking vitamins is for quacks or something? Oh and we also used Tea Tree and Lavender Essential Oils, I put a few drops on like perfume under our ears where the lymph glands were swollen from fighting the illness. It does help. I would be really careful though to not use a lot for a kidney compromised person as Lavender can be hard on the kidneys. Wishing you a quick healing! - Arlynn
Guest guest
Welcome, ! That really is ridiculous to blame your daughter for other people getting sick as if she sprouted pertussis all on her own. I hope she's better ASAP. My son had it when he was 12 and it really was the 100 day cough. It lingered and faded over time but did last a long time. Anyway, glad to have you here. Keep us updated on how it goes with her! Guest guest
I didn't tell people and I didn't take him to the doctor so I wouldn't be harassed. There was nothing the doctor would offer anyway except to satisfy my curiosity that he really had it (and are the tests reliable anyway? Who knows?). If anyone tried to blame me, I would remind them he got it from his vaccinated friends. I think it's just contagious for a couple of weeks, so that makes sense you were told that. I gave my son homeopathic meds, Vit. C, quercetin and Larix (a natural antibiotic), kept the vaporizer on pretty much all summer, had him drink a lot of water--oh, and a homeopathic cough syrup called Children's Bronchial and Cough Syrup by Boericke & Tafel. We all use it in our family with any kind of cough. Also, no dairy and try to keep the diet good. I kept him home for a day or so at the beginning and even after that on occasion as a precaution so he wouldn't get run down. It's funny, too, because he always had respiratory problems/pneumonias (I feel from too many antibiotics as a baby) and he pretty much sailed through the pertussis with no complications at all.
