Guest guest
Thank you very much!!! She is a doll and is already bonding to our boys. I can't wait till my daughter sees her this afternoon. My husband is more leery about not vaccinating Molly our dog, then he was aabout the kids...so so when I told him you all had the answers or tips to the right spot for us to start our reading - he said you go ask them!! Lol!!! He's just terrified of Molly getting heart worm, since one of my in-laws dogs died from it. so I want the right tools in our home for her too. Plus, with her getting the rabies shot, I need to know what to do to look for in reactions and etc. I'll call my local book store to see what one of these books they have. Thank you sooo much. Guest guest
Hi Carlena! Congrats on your new puppy! <He's just terrified of Molly getting heart worm, since one of my in-laws dogs died from it. Heartworms are like any other parasite, a healthy immune system will destroy the microflaria. Have you read up on the life cycle of the heartworm? It's very difficult to get heartworm, it's a multi-stage process. The best thing you can do is not to vaccinate anymore and feed a raw diet, this will ensure she has the best immunity possible. I live in FL, mosquitos year round, I haven't used any type of preventative for years, my dogs are not vaxed, rawfed and I have them tested twice yearly for heartworms. If you join the AutNatK9 group you'll have access to various natural approaches for treating HWs, including Dr. Wessner's. I would not follow any of Dr. Pitcairn's recipes, they are loaded with grains, he really needs to get up to speed with what is a true species appropriate diet for dogs and cats. Dr. Hamilton's book is quite good, "Homeopathic Care for Cats & Dogs". <Plus, with her getting the rabies shot, I need to know what to do to look for in reactions and <etc. There are many possible reactions, the most common are fear and aggression. Symptoms can occur months or years later, it's always best not to vaccinate. If she does start having symptoms you need to work w/ a good homeopath to try and resolve what ever the symptoms are. Enjoy your new puppy and be prepared to go shoe shopping! Diane
Guest guest
There are natural heartworm preventatives and treatments, and we live next door to a large structure with tons of bats. We had 9 bats in the area prove rabies positive a few years ago and no incidents of dogs or cats contracting it. We had a totally unvaccinated dog at the time and to be honest, I wasn't worried in the slightest. Her body was sooooo healthy and strong! Her immune system was well supported. She was on no chemicals for fleas or heartworm, and she never got sick when exposed to standard dog illnesses like parvo. But I also have spent years learning and raising them and have tons of things on hand to both build the system and to deal with parvo or viral issues, should we encounter them. There are lots of dog groups to join for more support! Best wishes with your dog! jayne > > Thank you very much!!! She is a doll and is already bonding to our boys. Guest guest
We can't not give her the rabies shot. We live in a very small town, less then 1000 people. Then the city official made a point to say Molly has to have the rabies shot or she can't be in town. They dont care about the rest of the shots, so that's what our plan was. we had a few bumps so far. We were told she had all her puppy shots, but turns out she has had only 2 parvo shots, and she's 10-11 weeks not 12 like we were told. So I'm glad she's had less shots, husband is not. we saw the vet on Monday because Molly refused to eat or drink. Now I'm not so sure of this new vet since he gave me medicine for running stools and I told him she didnt. He says she has Crohn's Disease based of the sample he got. :/ If we do a raw diet, I need it to be super easy and Gluten free since we have major food allergies in our household. Since 3 of us have Celiac Disease/ Gluten Intolerance - I limit it the exposure of Gluten in my home. How do I build up her immune system especially for heart worm and those other diseases like rabies. It was heartbreaking watching Chance suffer thru the Heart worm like he did. Thank GOD my older 2 kids were so small they just remember him being really sick and then he was gone the next time we went up there. We are very inexperienced dog owners. Trying to do everything right but natural at the same time. Lol! I currently only have very limited internet access on my phone, till I get to town and go to the library. But I'll check out that group the next time I'm in town. In the mean-time...what things can I do to boost her immune system? I'm gonna cancel the dis-temper shot till I do some more research. I did Google search for a holistic vet...none local, not even close to St.Cloud - which is shorter drive then all the way to MPLS, MN...which is the nearest one. So I don't know what to do. Really feeling overwhelmed with all of this, like when I first started on my journey for my kids. Carlena Re: Puppy Care - was: Rabies - A very misunderstood disease Hi Carlena!
