So pleased you decided to get active with CMT. While I do not

wear AFOs, I do have metal screws in my back and I had some

fear about the airport check-in/search/security scene. Just last

week I flew out of LAX and airport check-in was a breeze. Not

everyone was totally checked. I was happy my back screws did not

trigger the alarms and my day pack was just X rayed. It was a piece

of cake. I noticed about 1 out of every 4 people were screened and

checked more thoroughly - so where I was it was pretty random. There

were people who had to take their shoes off and one man was wearing

an AFO of some kind and security was very polite in questioning and

assisting him. He explained the use of his AFO easily and was not

afraid to show it and how it worked. He passed fine. One thing my

airline of choice asked me was to be at the airport 3 hours ahead of

time. This was OK with me, I had plenty of time to clear security and

relax before my flight.
