Guest guest
, I don't know where you are located but I would like to tell you about a CMT support group in Horseheads NY, this is south central NY. We now have about 12 regular attendees, meet once every 3 months and have formed great camaraderie within the group. Most of them come to be able to talk to others who know what they are talking about. There are also groups in stown, PA., NYC, Erie, Pa., Philadelphia, PA that I am aware of. Try one of them, You will feel very comfortable. P. PS If you receive the CMTA periodical, they have a listing of them inside, usually near the back of the magazine, or contact CMTAssoc.com for further help in locating a group. Guest guest
, I have only been once and it was about 30 years ago. I only went at the suggestion of my neurologist. About 10-15 people, most in wheelchairs, and all with other neuro disorders; no one with CMT except me. One of the visiting professors was explaining some nerve biology and explaining how we were different. Considering I was in my 20's and was so mainstream in terms of work, school, friends and life in general, I felt very sorry for the people there and I also felt like I was being " categorized " . I never returned. Maybe things are different now. I never felt I needed any support groups, until a 12 step program came into my life and completely changed me for the better - and yes, 1/2 of it was my attitude toward life at the time. I still attend 12 step groups because that is my REAL sustanance! ~G
