Guest guest
This is a way to avoid passing on the CMT gene to children. http://www.cmtworld.org/epublisher/publish/article_61.php
Guest guest
Hi ... I not sure if the Pre-implantation Genetic diagnosis (PGD) quote of 7K to 12K US you referred to is the same thing as the Corionic Villus sampling (CVS) testing Athena can do... I had understood that the PGD is a proceedure where they harvest eggs, use an in vitro procedure to create embreyos (sp?) and then screen the embreyos for 1A before re-implanting them in the mother...a very costly and time consuming proceedure..but a quaranteed way for CMT free-babies, and having all the success rate worries of conventional in vitro.. THe CVS test that Athena was referring to is a screening like amniocentesis, done once you are pregnant, in order to identify defects that are already present...giving you the option of terminating if you are ok with that. They do it for things like Down's Syndrome routinely. I would expect that it is way cheaper than PGD..I sure hope the 7K to 12K isn't for the CVS! On another note...are baby 'Hurricane Gretchen's...'Tropical Storm Gretchens'! Cheers Sally Re: Citalopram/Celexa -> to I take celexa it works for depression and anxiety. Guest guest
To clarify - PGD can be up to $20,000 including the costs of IVF, and the definite wor ries that you might pay all that $ and not get pregnant. CVS is done at 10-12 weeks pregnant. Athena charges about $120 for the DNA test, your OB (or a specialty OB) charges $300-500 for the CVS, but insurance generally covers it.
