I'd add something like that to the finished kefir after straining. Not in

the culture jar.

Yes, I would add it to the kefir and not the culture jar. My question

would be, is there anything that I would add that would destroy the

live cultures?

Not likely, it survives your stomach acids, right?

Heat is the one and only thing I know that will kill off the living goodies

in kefir, honey may be another (according to some) I'm not sure I agree. I

use vanilla, fruit, chocolate and orange juice concentrate.

I am curious about the statement about honey. I have been making oar

muesli everyday with kefir. 2 cups of rolled oats, 2 cups of kefir, 2

Tablespoons of honey, and a ripe banana. I stir it all up and put on

the counter overnight. In the morning it is definitely alive! It

rises and ferments.

Why do you say honey will kill of the beneficial biology?

,

Don't the bananas get brown and mushy? Sounds good, I'd like to try it.

Thanks,

Honey has natural antibacterial properties, so some say it will kill the

healthy bacteria in the kefir.

The reason I don't agree is that as soon as honey is mixed with any other

ingredient it looses those antibacterial properties.

Apply honey alone and it's antibacterial, mix it with something and it's

not.

So the stories go...

So do you eat that concoction for breakfast? Sounds interesting sans the

banana.

Hi ,

Honey is anti bacterial. But obviously it doesn't kill everything or there

would be no such thing as mead.

I was just recently told that if you set out , in a dish, on the

counter the amount that you want to use that day...that within an hour

the alchol will have evaporated thus no more alcohol in the extract???
