Guest guest
Some one here mentioned the fish net for straining and I bought one. Worked GREAT and so much faster then the strainer to get the grains back out of. All for $1.22 at Wally world. Guest guest
These are good ideas. I always make such a mess transferring my water kefir - I was using a regular funnel and a small plastic strainer. The funnel was the problem. Last week I ran across a mason jar/canning funnel at the grocery store. It is really cool because the tube part is the diameter of the jar opening and the top part is much bigger than the one I was using. Plus it was only 99 cents or thereabout. My plastic strainer fits in it just right. No more mess! This is probably old news but thought I'd share just in case... Beth
Guest guest
I was concerned about the fish net from wally world as it was green and probably not food grade, don't want to take chances. Whats really cool about this funnel is the removable screen that sits at the tapered end of the neck, it can be removed for easy cleaning and its nylon. I have ordered two tonight. Guest guest
I found a great drainer/strainer at my local dollar store a couple of days ago. It is meant to drain canned vegetables while still in the can. It works on two sizes of cans. The holes are perfect for milk kefir, small enough to keep the grains in and big enough to allow the thickened milk thru. I'm really impressed with this. I can drain my 1/2 gallon jar and put fresh milk back in in a flash. This makes things so much easier on me. Yippeee! to health & happiness, Rae
Guest guest
I HAVE one of those, but my kefir is too thick to go through. I have tried it. I am glad it works for you. Lawana
Guest guest
Hi Lawana, Please try it again. Drag the strainer out of the drawer and this time before you strain your milk kefir, put a tight lid on your jar and shake the dickens out of your milk kefir first. Doing this helps to get the thickened milk loose from the grains. Then strain the grains from your milk kefir. And your finished milk kefir will thicken back up in the fridge. to health & happiness, Rae in Idaho
