Guest guest
Marilyn's comments after ----- Good morning and happy holidays. I haven't ordered any grains yet as just when Dad said go ahead and get them ordered, Marilyn posted in her blog that she had stopped shipping for the holidays. ----Not exactly. I am not shipping today to relieve the burden on the post office. I am shipping this Friday and from then on. No worries, I can hang in there. I have some store bought kefir that will just have to do until I can start making my own. -----You can extend that for a second generation by adding a cup of it to a quart of your good milk and leaving at room temperature for a day or until thick. Sometimes you can get it to set up like yogurt with this method. I was curious if anyone had any advice for my 5 month old great dane puppy. Max swallowed a spoon and it had to be surgically removed. It was torture cutting his rations back while his stomach healed. He was also on antibiotics. I asked the vet if I should give him some kefir or yogurt and she said no and something about the antibiotics and good bacteria. I didn't catch all she said but basically she didn't want me to worry about it. I've taken to letting him lick out my cup after my morning kefir. When I start making my own kefir I might take to giving him some. Raw milk at about $4 a gallon versus $4 or $5 a quart for store bought kefir makes it a no brainer. Yesterday I had some yogurt that was past it's expiry date. It's smelled fine and I used it for tzatziki sauce, the rest I dumped in Max's dish. He seemed to relish it. He was noticably gassy afterwards when normally he's not.... HMMMMMM. Speaking of gas, I notice I'm gassy on kefir. OK - here's the thing. I know I have very slow digestion and have been trying to work on this problem for about 4 years now. I believe there's been improvements, but since introducing the kefir I have gas. Could this just be a natural process of my intestinal tract cleaning itself out? I have increased BM's from at least 2 a day to more like 4 times. I have also been limiting my kefir to a cup in the morning. Well store bought at the above mentioned prices is the reason. Would drinking more kefir help? ----I always say drink to bowel tolerance. It sounds like you need to cut back a little. Real kefir made from real kefir grains is more powerful than your store " kefir " . I'm glad you are using less powerful stuff first. -----Please sign your posts in the future. Thanks, Marilyn
