Guest guest
Morning, I did the search for stringy kefir and found 8 posts to it last night. Now nothing will come up. I did not really get enough of an answer to this problem. I have water kefir grains in water.Half gallon jar. Slight 1/4 cup Organic cain sugar and brown sugar a few raisins a pinch of coral calcium and tiny pinch of sea salt. I drain and renew daily. All has been great. Then the kefir turned sort of thick. There is still some fizz in it and it tastes the same but we are not liking the thickness to it. Any ideas how to go back to where we were with nice fizzy kefir? The grains are growing and looking at the jar right now they are raising and falling nicely doing the lava lamp thing. Would rinsing the grains in water,no chlorine, help? Thank you in advance for any ideas. Maggie
Guest guest
I'll let someone else figure out the fizz part. For now, let just get rid of that weed that's making the water kefir thick. You have to rinse it thoroughly under running water. You do this before every new batch until the water is normal again. Weeds come from water but mostly dried fruit. Guest guest
Thank you Marilyn I will start rinsing them. Change to a different fruit and see if that will help. They were doing so well on the raisins until this.Sigh Maggie > From: Marilyn Kefirlady <marilynjarz@...> > Subject: Re: Stringy Kefir > > Date: Wednesday, November 26, 2008, 8:55 AM > I'll let someone else figure out the fizz part. Guest guest
If it tastes good, it is good. It sounds like they are becoming very active. They might not grow for several weeks. 21 people from Calgary have bought kefir grains from me in the past year. Oh, that's not quite right. About half just got the water grains. But there should be about 10 people who have some growing fresh ones. Generally, people who drink kefir also shop at health food stores. Why don't you put a request on their bulletin board?
