Guest guest
Mariner, Regarding obtaining Coral and Coral Calcium: I've found that you can get " Coral Calcium " at any Brewing Supply or Beer Making specialty store; it's sold properly as Calcium Chloride, which lowers the pH (hardens the water) and gives the mineral content. It's incredibly cheap too. You can buy 4 oz little packets, they will look like small beads. Be careful in your usage, as each TEASPOON is sufficient enough to harden 5 gallons of water, so you'll just need a teeny weeny pinch (I put in about five beads) will do for a typical Water Kefir batch. My grains are growing like crazy since I started using this and a pinch of Baking Soda. In my initial adventure trying to find Coral, I had wanted a " naturalist approach " instead of buying a " chemist's laboratory fabricated solution " , but I quickly recalled when I went to a pet store to buy real coral (cause I couldn't find it anywhere either) that over a third of the world's coral reefs have already died, so I didn't want to add to the commercial demand of buying that nice pretty piece of coral, whether living or ground to powder and dead, and continue adding financial incentives for their ongoing destruction. Hope this helps. Rob
