AFO's and Airline Check-in

Hi all. My name is Lipset, I am one of those lurkers who read many posts

and don't often write. I would like to become more active in our group as I

think I would learn much.

I have only recently begun using AFO's (2 months), and do find them beneficial,

although certainly there are getting-used-to issues.

I get around ok with the new orthotics and sometimes a cane.

I have a question. I do alot of air travel in the USA and to Europe for my

work, and I wonder if people have had experience, post September 11, at going

through the check-in processes using the AFO's. Mine have a metal hinge to

allow better driving capabilities for me, and I guess would set off alarms.

Also, I am not really thrilled about needing to sit in a chair off to the side

and take off my shoes and orthotics. On the other hand, I don't need a

wheelchair (being fortunate), so I would also not look to avail myself of

wheelchair check-in.

Has anyone experience in recent check-in with orthotics, and maybe calling ahead

to go through another type of check-in?

I was just wondering, take care all.
