Water grains and sugar question

I have a chance to buy organic maple sugar at a good price. I know for

kombucha regular white sugar is considered best for the tea, but what about

water kefir grains? Is the maple sugar ok for them? I don't have any water

grains yet, but am trying to find some locally. Because I haven't any to

experiment with I am wondering if the maple sugar or the white sugar is best

for them before I buy the maple. Because otherwise, I don't really have a

need for the maple sugar.
