Guest guest
Hi, my name is Nadia I am 39 years old with no signs of cmt my mum is 69, has cmt which has worsened over the last 2 years. CMT was first mentioned to mum 20 years ago when she had complications from Legionaires disease when toxins went to the brain. During her long recovery the doctors mumbled the words " undiagnosed charcott marie tooth " which mum half heard but as she was coming out from a 2 week coma she was only interested in recovery and cmt got forgotten for another 20 years. 2 years ago mums mobility got worse, she could barely stand, she was getting stiff all over, couldn't turn at night and after a few visits to the doctor the word cmt was mentioned. She saw a neurologist who did scans and suggested spinal deterioriation and was subjected to 8 hours of sugery to stabilise the spine, again this made no difference and today she can barely stand, has to transfer from chair to toilet to bath etc, cannot turn at night etc. CMT seem to have affected her arms so she cannot lift them, is this norm? My sister and I seem OK are we lucky or could it raise its head any moment? I have a son, he is OK could it appear sometime? Loads of questions, any answers!!
