Guest guest
I would be thrilled to GIVE you several SCOBYs if you lived nearby but as it is, I don't want to get involved with mailing them. However, have you thought of just growing your own? That's what I did; all you need is a few bottles of GTs unflavored (one to grow the SCOBY, one to use for seeding your first batch). Looking for Kombucha Scoby Hi all-- I was wondering if anyone here brews Kombucha, and if so, might have a Scoby to sell? I'm looking to start brewing my own Kombucha (again). Thanks! -Amber

Guest guest
I like www.kombuchakamp.com - I have not purchased her scoby or anything from her but I have read her website and watched her videos. I have my first attempt to growing a mother sitting in my kitchen but I don't think our house is warm enough yet to get 'er to grow (we keep the house at 62-64 and it's still chilly in Michigan). Good luck.On Tue, Apr 5, 2011 at 10:47 AM, berlinsmith <berlinsmith@...> wrote: Hi all-- I was wondering if anyone here brews Kombucha, and if so, might have a Scoby to sell? Guest guest
It'll just take longer (and it takes at least a week regardless) but it'll get there, believe me; you don't want it much above 80º F anyway. It doesn't need to be kept dark-dark (although it doesn't hurt) but keep it out of direct sunlight. Guest guest
Thanks , I have a paper towel over the mouth of the container, and then wrapped a dish towel around the sides of the jars for a little blanket. Hah.It has been just over the first week and I don't see anything forming yet - I am getting nervous but trying to be patient. I even had a dream about my scoby, I named it Gilley (in my dream). My poor husband is going to send me to a crazy home if I tell him this dream. :)On Tue, Apr 5, 2011 at 11:16 AM, <kareningotham@...> wrote: It'll just take longer (and it takes at least a week regardless) but it'll get there, believe me; you don't want it much above 80º F anyway. Guest guest
Oh, MY! Well, a men's hanky is better than a paper towel (I think). Did you use GTs? You have to use a non-pasteurized KT in order for a SCOBY to form. You don't need to baby it so much, though--just keep it darkish, out of drafts, and let it breath. Guest guest
Hm, I used GT's Original, not {enlightened}. But I don't see where it says non-pasteurized, or pasteurized...suggestions?On Tue, Apr 5, 2011 at 11:53 AM, <kareningotham@...> wrote: Oh, MY! Guest guest
And I use a rubber band to keep keep any critters out. Guest guest
Oh, yes--a heavy rubber band is great. They can't get through the hanky/rubber band combo. Cheese cloth usually has a weave that's too loose--the hanky is perfect. Guest guest
I took a nice dish towel, (not the terry kind) the white large dish towels, And cut one into fourths, and they work great too. k -- Re: Looking for Kombucha Scoby I like www.kombuchakamp.com - I have not purchased her scoby or anything from her but I have read her website and watched her videos. Guest guest
As long as it's permeable with a weave that's tight enough to inhibit "colonization," it should be fine.
