Guest guest
ann, Yes, at first, after wearing my orthotics a full day, when I took my shoes off and was barefoot, I felt some 'ache' - not a big deal. Stefan told me this might happen. It is just my feet getting used to walking by being placed in a different position. Fear of dependence on orthotics? I don't know why. Mine are a godsend and go everywhere. Across streams, to the beach, beachcombing, hiking, biking, walking, shopping, to weight-bearing PT/exercise - but in the pool I don't wear them, getting them wet that much and the chlorine would blow them away. I just wear another pair of NB shoes there. The stability my orthotics provide is priceless. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Hi,, Will someone please help me? My 24 year old daughter has tried to have a pair of orthotics made at the doctor's office, but to no avail. They do not fit right, not comfortable, etc. Is it better to go to a person that specializes in this? An orthotist? I really appreciate your help and answers. When I read all the good things the orthotics do, I really want to know. Myself, I have a left foot drop walk, one of those that everyone loves to stare at but I have gotten so I just kinda stare back and they look away. Thanks for your help. Guest guest
Elaine, no wonder the orthotics your daughter has don't fit. A orthotist OR pedorithist should be making these - as I have said before, first my doctor/Internist recommended them, even wrote a 'prescription' for them, and because he is a runner and wears orthotics when he runs, he was able to lead me to a GREAT Board Certified Orthotist. First, By all means, go to an orthotist. One that is Certified too. There are certain standards and qualifications an orthotist needs. You can search for an orthotist near you through this website http://cpeds.org/ look on the left side of the page, click on 'find an orthotist'. Secondly, take those orthotics the " doctor " made back and get your money back! Last, as for orthotics helping with foot drop - I don't know if this would work or not, since AFOs work with foot drop. But, do ask the orthotist about this - no doubt if he is a great guy like my orthotist Stefan, he makes the whole range of products. I don't have foot drop, just high arches and am prone to walking on my toes without the orthotics. I hope this information is helpful. ~ Gretchen
