THERE IS ONE THING ABOUT FOSAMAX THAT WE SHOULD ALL BE AWARE OF AND THAT IS

THE POSSIBILITY OF ESOPHAGEAL AND/OR STOMACH PROBLEMS. MANY WOMEN HAVE HAD TO

STOP TAKING FOSAMAX DUE TO THESE PROBLEMS.

I have taken Fosamx for 3 years with only positive bone regrowth results. This

drug must be taken on an empty stomach with lots of water and no food intake for

at least 30 minutes. You must be able to remain upright after taking it so it

can not reflux back into the esophagus where it could, indeed, cause problems.

Three other family members also take this with positve bone regrowth results and

no negative side effects. Two of us have CMT and two of us do not. CMT does

not have a corner on the market for bone density loss. I always thought that I

had strong bones because I have fallen so many times in my life without breaking

anything. I was also a milk drinker. Upon the urging of my sister to have a

bone density test I was really surprized at the results. I had severe loss in

my hips and mild loss in my lower spine. A broken hip is not something I relish

dealing with on top of my CMT! The main drawback with this drug for me is cost.

I was told there is no generic form

available so am forced to pay for name brand. Bummer!

Hello to all:

Here's my 2 cents!!

I also have taken fosmax for maybe 3 or 4 years. I have Congential

Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH), on top on CMT. Since birth I have taken

cortical steriods to keep me alive.

These steriods have weakened my bones, so my CAH doc put me on

Fosamax. As described I take it as prescribed and find I have no

side effects, maybe a mild tummy ache on occassion. But it seems to

help with some bone discomforts so I will keep taking it until a

better solution is discover.

Thanx
