Dear ers, I have 2 parts of good news in my life.

First, when I got home after aquatics this afternoon, I had a message

from MDA HQ in Tucson who said they wanted to interview me... (maybe I'm

HIRED? lol) - no really, they want to interview me for an article to be

in Quest Magazine on a topic I responded to last September 2003. For the

life of me, I can't remember what the topic is! So, will be in touch

with the writer next Tuesday and will find out for sure then.

Second bit of good news: Received my newsletter from the Neuropathy

Association today - the front page has the NT-3 story, which we all know

by now, nothing new there. Inside, they printed my congratulatory email

to Ann Donovan, the Director of the NA, and mentioned , plus

we have a link listed there to

This is what I emailed to Anne as soon as the NT-3 story broke last

October: " Dear Ann: I just read about Dr. Sahenk's research and the

Great News for CMT nerve regenerationt! Since the Neuropathy Association

is a sponsor, I personally want to thank you and all at TNA for helping

to fund this. I was diagnosed at age 9, am now 51, and this news of NT3

is a MAJOR breakthrough for CMT. So what if I had to wait 42 years to

see this - it is within my lifetime and I know it will give so many

people HOPE! I personally equate Dr. Sahenk's study with when the U.S.

first landed a man on the moon! So congratulations to you and Dr. Sahenk

and all at TNA! "

And Ann replied:

" Dear Gretchen: How nice of you to write! Yes, this discovery is

wonderful for CMT! And it may work on other forms of neuropathy as well!

Also wonderful is the fact that different organizations in the same

field as ours can work together toward a common cause. As I'm sure you

realize, we'll have to wait a few more years before wew actually take

NT3 ourselves, it has to go through more clinical studies for the FDA

and other government approval, but we believe we're well on our way.

Just thought I'd share this news with you all. is now 900 members

strong - we've come along way from the first 3 of us emailing each other

in 1999!
