Guest guest
Hello , I too had the same problem as you. I could not wear shoes lower than a two inch heel. Walking barefoot for me was impossible. My left foot turned in and when walking I had to stop and rest for a minute and then continue. I had my surgeries in 1997 and am now able to walk with my feet flat on the floor. Did you have an extremely high arch? ... Fla.
Guest guest
I agree Gretchen. I have a wonderful pediatrist who is into function totally. I walked on my outer ankle bone on both feet. The pain was just simply unbearable at the end. Along with the arthrodesis he did move some tendons around. I have 5 large screws thru each ankle to stablize it and realign the bones. I took MSM during the second ankle surgery and was out of the cast one week earlier. I am not sure if that was the reason but the doctor was shocked how quickly the bones knit. When you are in a cast for 3 mos., believe me, one week is major!!! For me, there was no other option for the pain that I was in. I agree that you should seek an opinion from a doctor who is well versed in the CMT foot. My doctor did so darn much research I thought I was his only patient. Guest guest
, Be real leery of those doctors who want to do surgery right away. If I was needing foot surgery again, I'd go for about 3 or 4 opinions from the doctors I truly trust. I'd ask them all the same questions and have them all describe what the surgery would entail. Then I would also go to my orthotist and consult with him because there may be a non-surgical alternative in making adjustments that he could do. I used to walk on the outer edge of my left foot - it rolled out left, while my right foot rolled in - also to the left. I didn't have anything done to my ankles, that wasn't the problem. My surgery was the tendon transplant surgery which has been very successful and lasted 40 years so far. ~ Gretchen
