Guest guest
Tom: thanks for the response to the diet issue. As much as I'd like to swim for exercise, I think my electric wheel chair would need to be outfitted with a periscope and snorkel valve, not to mention ballast tanks for surfacing. (submarine sailor here). I'm past the stage of aggressive/passive pool therapy. The last time I tried that, I almost drowned even with the special upright buoyancy device strapped to me. The experience also exacerbated an internal bleeding problem (the plumbing) that's been addressed without success. The thing that disappoints me the most about not being able to use the pool is that fact that I received my first varsity letter in high school from being on the swim team. From personal experience, I know swimming is probably the best low impact and cardiovascular exercise one can do to stay fit. Years ago, I modified the Dr. Stillman Water Diet and was successful for maintenance weight control. I shared it with a friend who was safely able to loose about 30 pounds in 30 days. Of course he gained it all back after going on an eating binge. Because of the inability physically to exercise in the classic sense, I'm searching high and low for a dietary way to loose weight without disturbing in any dramatic way the chemistry in my system that can have serious adverse affect. By the way, I too like a bit of Mexican food on occasion. The spicier the better. rQn I
Guest guest
Ron, Thanks for clueing me in on the efforts you have made to remain active and avoid drowning!! Speaking of drowning, it's raining like hell here and we are having a tornado warning so guess I'll head to the basement. Good luck with your weight control efforts. You might try, " Intuitive Eating " , it's a good book. Not a weight loss program, it helps people be more in tune with their real hunger and helps avoid yo-yo dieting. A therapist I supervise conducts a group using concepts from this book. It is a very popular group. People find it useful. Tom
Guest guest
Thanks Tom. I'll certainly check it out. Now get to the basement and don't forget to take the cork screw with you so you can open a good bottle of Merlot. Stay safe! rQn I
