Guest guest
Anj, You may have to travel to a bigger town to find better access and quality of doctors. Have you been to Wayne State in Detroit to see Dr. Shy? I have had foot pain since I was 7. It is a burning foot pain on the bottoms. I still have it (off and on) Surgery can't do anything for this - this is the nerves. You didn't say what kind of pain you have. Or perhaps surgery isn't even needed, instead some shoes like New Balance with custom orthotics. There are options. Explore them all. Soft tissue surgery on your feet might just restore the quality of your life. All you can do is get some medical advice on surgical options for your feet/and the pain. Then go from there. ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
, and all others on this thread, I had surgery on my feet in the mid '80s. I had a triple arthrodesis, which apparently is a sort of stapling of the three ankle bones together so your foot is stable, and an arch release (don't know the technical name.) I had one foot done, recovered from that, then had the other foot done about 6 months later. I was literally laid up, in bed, for a couple of weeks but the rest of the three month recovery time I was up and on crutches or walking with a 'walking shoe.' I attended graduate classes most of the time I was recovering, only missed a couple, and towards the end I was out in the public schools doing practicum activities. As far as lasting effect, I waited until very late to do the surgery, could have used it when I was a teenager, but I was nearly 40 when I had it done. It did me a world of good for about ten years. I was 'footloose and fancy free' except for stair climbing which was hard. Now I'm nearing 60, and my muscles up my legs are weaker and my sensory feedback is deteriorating so I usually use a cane when I'm out and about. Maybe this info will add a little to everyone else's input. Sherry > Bobbie, > > I was thinking that if I use a walker or crutches I can return to work in a few weeks. My employer won't be happy if it's any longer than that. > >
