Guest guest
Does anyone have an idea if Vit C would have as good a chance of helping those with CMTX as CMT1A? I'm diagnosed with CMTX and may start taking Vit C. Is X type simalar to CMT1A? The way I understand them is that they are the same. X is just inherited differently and located on a different gene. Thanks for any help

Guest guest
Type X is inherited in a different manner than CMT 1A. Type X is inherited through the sex chromosome (the one that decides boys from girls) Some guys are more affected with CMT X than girls, but not all the time. Some girls are asymptomatic (meaning, showing no symptoms, but have tested positive) CMT in all the 79+ types is different for each of us, due to our individual genetic coding. Severity or non-severity can differ, also even within family lines, CMT symptoms can appear completely different. Until the first human trials of CMT 1A for Ascorbic Acid are pursued and finalized, like Professor Fontes said, we won't know if Ascorbic Acid (Vit.C) works for CMT 1A in humans or only on mice. He said IF Vit C. proves successful for 1A, then other trials would be done for other types...but that first parameter needs to be established in double-blind clinical trials. ~ Gretchen
