'AIDS patient' held for killing wife, kids

TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ SUNDAY, MARCH 14, 2004 02:29:40 AM ]

HYDERABAD : Ch Madhava Rao who killed his wife and two sons on February 26 at

their residence suspecting that his family was suffering from Acquired Immuno

Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), was arrested by the Ramachandrapuram police on

Saturday.

Rao killed his wife Ch Shanthi Kumari, 29 and two sons Ajay, 3 and Vijay, 1 at

his house in LIG Colony Ramachandrapuram on February 26. He strangulated his

sons to death and later killed Shanthi by hitting her head with a grinding stone

after she refused to consume the poison.

Rao too attempted suicide by consuming poison, but survived and underwent

treatment at the Gandhi Hospital . " We took Rao into custody after doctors

discharged him from the hospital on Saturday morning and registered cases

against him for killing his wife and children under section 302 of IPC and

section 309 of IPC, " circle inspector of the Ramachandrapuram police station

M Srinivas Rao told The Times of India on Saturday.

" We are also planning to file a requisition in the court seeking permission to

collect the blood samples of Rao for conducting another round medical test

though doctors at the Gandhi Hospital had confirmed that accused was not

suffering from AIDS, " the CI said.

Interrogations by the police revealed that Rao resorted to the extreme step as

he was in a false notion that he and his family was affected from AIDS.

Rao was believed to be confessed before the police that he did not undergo any

medical test though he was suffering from the trauma of being an AIDS victim for

the last few months.
