Guest guest
Hi , I took an EMG about 1 month ago. The needle was nothing. But I have to add I get alergy shots regularly. The shocks however do cause discomfort. Most of them weren't bad but a few used in the bigger muscles made me jump. I was glad when it was over, but it really wasn't that awful. Guest guest
, I have had approximately 6 EMGs and my observation is that how bad or good it is depends on the Neurologist administering the EMG. Don't get me wrong, none of them are fun, but they are certainly tolerable (after all, they did get me to undergo it more than once!). Mayo Clinic was great -- hardly felt a thing. A neurologist is saw in KC MO must have been trained by the Marquis DeSade. This is an important test in determining the severity of your neuropathy. You'll do fine. Guest guest
I never cease to be amazed how many of you describe the EMG as painfull. I guess yas'll should be happy you feel the pain. As for me I feel nothing at all in my legs and feet and very little discomfort in my hands. I hope you are lucky and feel some pain, that sounds terrible but at least you know you have feelings left. Guest guest
, You will absolutely be aok. While it's not " a piece of cake " , you will manage. I like nothing to do with doctor's (not personally, lol), needles, etc., and I made my way thru it. I was so nervous & apprehensive. Be sure to tell the doctor of your fears - mine talked me thru every step of the way. I'll say a few prayers. You WILL be ok! Please let me know how well you did!!!!! Guest guest
Cathleen, I too have a general sensation of numbness in my hands and in my legs from my knees down, but I have only to step on a tiny piece of anything semi-solid in my bare feet to remind me that not all my nerves have died. And, speaking from the EMG realm, when they inserted the needle in the top of my big toe, above my eyebrow, and the top of my feet, I definitely knew there were still some nerves unaffected by CMT. from Oklahoma
Guest guest
Hi , Over the years I have talked to many people about this test that I refer to as mid-evil torture. Its Friday so how did you do? I thought having a baby was easier and much more rewarding. I have type 1A from the results of the EMG . I did a lil poll a long time ago and it seemed that type 2 CMTers didn't think the EMG hurt as bad as I did. This might be a good poll topic. Guest guest
, was just wondering, while taking zanax wouldn't that alter the test? what i mean is hide how bad it is? I am going to have to have one on the 14 of July again, more to the upper extremities, I am having chronic back and leg pain, I was wondering if my pain meds would cause it not to read correctly. Thanks for sharing the med sugestions. Hugs, Janet
