Guest guest
Sorry if I have offended anyone. I only answered a question that was asked. I personnally do not wear AFOs as of this time. I have high arches and can't walk very much at one time. My doctor told that using the Birkenstock style shoe makes me use my leg muscles more and would help me. I know that he does not know much about CMT, but he is learning. I do not post very often, but do read the postings. I will probably just stay in the sidelines and just read from now on. Guest guest
Hi Jolene, Please don't stay on the sidelines. Your input is as valuable as anyone else's is. I can't wear sandals since they won't stay on my feet. But, please don't feel as if you were offending anyone. You certainly didn't offend me. Guest guest
I wear sandals too and would wear them all year round if I could. I have a pair of mens that I love but I have found that they are sometimes too heavy and I get really tired feet/legs wearing them. Until recently, all the shoes I really love have been mens because they are wider. Sharon
Guest guest
I found a pair of sandals called earth shoes at Walmart. They have a closed heel and velcro straps across the top. I can walk in them and the velcro lets me adjust if my feet swell during the day. Cathleen in Arkansas
Guest guest
Cyndo, Funny about the sandals (also, that you say thongs instead of flip flops because I say thongs and people look at me like I am nuts!) I would do anything to be able to throw on shorts and my thongs and walk out the door. It it silly, but that is one thing I am so jealous of! Guest guest
Jackie, It is so funny how weak leg muscles (OK I simplified it) can lead to such wardrobe problems Huh? I actually hate shopping and the mall is like tortue. I cannot wear most of the shoes in the stores and as far as clothing I stick to long pants (In the CA summer Ugh!) because my legs are so misshapen. Oh, to be able to wear a sun dress and some little kitten heels! I told my daughter that if they ever find a cure I will be out buying the trashiest high heels I can find and I WILL wear them! Guest guest
Yes, I have a terrible problem with my feet!!! I can only wear, to be able to walk, my special sneakers with orthotics in them. Even that is a challange! My feet are one of my biggets problems. Stella
Guest guest
Hello, I also wear new balance sneakers with orthotics for the most comfort and support. However, during the summer we spend a lot of time on the river. I found Teva makes a very comfortable and supportive sandle. It seems to cushion the bottom of the foot and the straps are adjustable so you can place them as you like. Having had surgery on my feet I can't stand to have anything touching the top of my toes and these don't. It also gives great ankle support. Good luck, > > Yes, I have a terrible problem with my feet!!! I can only wear, to be > able to walk, my special sneakers with orthotics in them. Even that > is a challange! Guest guest
Thanks everyone for the info. Stella and Lori mentioned special sneakers with custom orthotics. Is this something your doctor prescribed, or did you aquire them through other avenues? Guest guest
Does anyone know of sandal type shoes to wear with an AFO? Thanks for the input. Elaine
Guest guest
Hi Elaine, I wear cream color Otto Bock sandals. They are wonderful! I like them a lot more than my shoes. But still too cold for sandals here in Sweden. However, I just returned from one week in sunny Spain, where I climbed the medieval castle of Alhambra in Granada with my Otto Bock sandals + Blue Rocker braces. I needed some help (by my partner) on the stairs (not too ergonomic stairs...) but otherwise, I walked the castle and palace on my own, it took 5 hours. I am very proud and glad that I managed this! It was a wonderful experience! Beata

Guest guest
I also found the exact same pair of sandals at Walmart. With CMT, these actually support my feet and agree on the swelling too. So got a new pair when they came out this spring again. So hard to find sandala that work with CMT. Barb > > > I found a pair of sandals called earth shoes at Walmart.
