Guest guest
Hi Tammy, Welcome. You should learn a lot here. I, too, take Fosamax for bone regrowth. You should see evidence of some improvement with your next test after a year. Your doctor is right in that CMT probably played a part in your bone density loss. This is due to the fact that a lot of CMTers do limited walking, running and jumping and the bones do not receive enough impact to keep them strong. Many people suffer bone loss who do not have CMT, also. Many are blissfully unaware unless they have the test done. There are now elementary schools that are having the students jump for a short period before leaving the classroom for recess. The purpose is for maintaining strong bones. I am still ambulatory at age 63, although range is limited, when I was told I would be in a wheelchair by 20 and in heaven by 25. The doctors were guessing and they guessed wrong! Just keep on keeping on and know that you are not alone! Ruth
Guest guest
Tammy, Your email really touched my heart. I, too, have a son that is showing signs of CMT. I can handle almost anything, but for my child to have a disorder that genetically came from me, that's hard. All parents feel some sort of guilt in this situation. I'm glad that your family is positive, mine is too. And, when the going gets tough, the jokes come, and laughing makes everything better. I wanted you to not feel alone, because, I know how you feel.
