Guest guest
I have been wearing AFOs for the past 28 years or so and they were always made with a lining of foam on the inside to help provide a cushion when walking and to help prevent blisters and sore spots. The last pair I had made was by a new outfit and much to my surprise, they had no lining inside of them. When I questioned them about that they told me they don't make them like that any longer. I have noticed a HUGE difference in the level of pain and soreness in my feet wearing these AFOs. My heels get sore and my arches ache after being on my feet for a few hours, but with the old foam lined braces, it wasn't unusual in my old job to be on my feet for 8-9 hours a day. I have tried a gel cushion insert but it didn't feel right and didn't seem to fit properly even when trimmed. The company that provided my AFOs the last time told me one of the reasons they don't use a liner is due to the braces staying cooler in summer without one, but I'll tell you, I sure got A LOT colder this winter with no foam lining. Does anyone know off the top of their head how often Medicare will cover the costs of AFOs? And, does anyone know if AFOs are still available with foam linings?? Thanks! ~
