Guest guest
Hello all, I called the SSA Friday to check the status of my SSD application. Mainly I wanted to make sure it wasn't lost. Anyway, I talked to a guy who sounded somewhat condescending, he said that my application wasn't even on file. I told him I applied online about 3 weeks ago and asked that he look again, he then said " Oh, I see where you applied on the Internet. " He then told me when the application was submitted by me. He also said that the local office hasn't even downloaded the information to review. Is this normal? I don't expect a quick decision, etc. But this seems ridiculous, 3 weeks and they haven't even looked at it? I told the guy I just wanted to make sure they have the info they need. I asked " is their anything that is needed from me? " He said " you'll probably have to see one of our doctors. " I asked him " you mean a neurologist? " He responded " a doctor for whatever type of disability you have. " Is this always the case? Being that this guy has absolutely ZERO knowledge of my disability (or even my application) it seems out of line for him to be telling me " you'll probably have to see one of our doctors. " Is the SSA really this bad? Am I in for a long nightmare trying to be approved for disability? Any input is appreciated.
Guest guest
Hi- Back in 1982 when I appied for SSD I had to see a neurologist that was chosen by them. He took one look at me and said " How do you work fulltime and raise 2 kids? " I replied you do what you HAVE to do.The end result..I was approved right away. It does take some time tho. Which actually works out because you have to be unemployed for 6 mos. before your benefits start. Be patient and good luck. SSD is not as easy as it once was to get the first try. My late son had to apply 3 times! And he was bad off...then he received a very big check the first month. Go figure. I've had people call me from Tallahassee asking what is CMT? Barb Fl. Guest guest
Oh how the system works. I have lived through the last 7 months upset with the system. Let me enlighten you just a bit. First if Soc Sec needs any more information they well contact you by mail. Second, you can wait and know nothing and be on edge all that time just wondering and wondering and worrying. Relax. SSD will take 5 months, as is their standard waiting period. Nothing well happen before then as to a decision. There is a standard 5 month waiting period before they make their decision and during that time, they well contact all of your Dr's that you listed for information. If your local office decides that you are eligible, your case well be sent to the regional office for the final decision. If the regional office agrees, you well be notified by mail. If you are denied the local office will contact you. At that time, you can appeal. If you are accepted and are expecting a retroactive check, be aware that there well be no retroactive check for the first 5 months of the waiting period. So if you are accepted your check well start on the 6th month and you well get it on the 7th month. As far as doctor appointments with them, it well depend on your application and what you put down. I applied January 6th of this year. Was notified at the end of June that I was accepted. My first benefit is for July and I well receive my first check the 3rd Wed. in August.. I never had to see their doctor due to my application information and my doctor's letters. And I did get accepted the first time around. Unusual but true. If you are rejected the first time, and appeal, and dont hesitate to do so, then if and when you are accepted then your check will be retroactive from the 6th month from when you first applied. I applied in Detroit, where it was approved, then it went to Chicago for final approval and then it goes to land for processing. My application was very lengthly due to the medical and physical problems I have which I wont list because this is long enough already. Guest guest
Also about ssd, now that I'm officially diagnosed with cmt, how to I apply for assistance? The medication costs me 500.00 a month, plus the visit. I was told I could work and make no more than 800.00 a month and still get ss, Is that true? Guest guest
Hi , In order for my application to be completed, S.S. set up an appointment for me to see their doctor. I was wondering what kind of test they were going to do and also how long after will I find out if I get approved or not? Any feedback will help. Thank you, Will
Guest guest
From my learning experience from all this, if you are allowed to make 800 a month and do so, you well be reviewed sooner. I was told to keep it below 600 because they figure that if you can work and make 800 than you can work and support yourself. Doesnt make much sence to me on how they figure all this Elaine.........Michigan
