Guest guest
Hi everyone, My name is ; I am 49 years old and have had the evidence of CMT since I was five. I was diagnosed with CMT when I was 17 years old and at that time had surgery on both feet. I have a bilateral triple arthodesis. I was headed for a wheelchair, so this surgery was necessary. It was an answer to prayer. This surgery has helped me to live a pretty normal life for over 30 years now. I have to deal with numbness of my legs and feet. And my hands aren't as strong as they once were, but " Praise God " I am managing nicely. I work full time and use a push cart to get around from place to place. I can easily trip if I don't lean on something when my legs and feet go numb. Pride does not stand in my way of supporting myself and making my own living so I can be independent. My mom (70 yrs. old) has CMT also, and she has just had surgery for breast cancer. Does anyone know what the side effects of radiation on a person with CMT might be? I'm wondering if it might be better for her to not have the radiation. Her scans have come back clean of cancer; her lymph node biopsy came back clean., also. I feel it would be better on her CMT to take a chance and if she gets cancer again; then treat it. I just hate to see her suffer anymore; she's been through so much already. Has anyone had to confront this crossroad before? Thanks for your input, in S.C.
