Also how many 'regular' (non-CMT fusions the doc did) Ask the doc who he would have HIS CMT SON let do an ankle fusion... A good orthopedic/ankle/foot doctor/surgeon is what you need; and one with experience in the procedure. Orthopedists love to cut. It's their 'thing'. A good one won't want to cut right away but will attempt to try other things...shop around...even if you have to travel from home. CMT feet and ankles really need special love and care.
