Guest guest
Concerning the question of hearing aids: I currently wear 1 hearing aid in my worst ear--it has almost 50% hearing loss. The other ear has about a 40% hearing loss, and my insurance did not cover hearing aids, so I went with 1, in the worst ear. I find it very helpful--especially with TV or movies. I am 36 years old, with CMT 1A, and the ENT doc said the hearing loss was neurological in nature before he even knew I had CMT. Now that I have different insurance, I am considering a second hearing aid for my other ear. Anecdotally, my father has had severe hearing loss for many years due to a ruptured ear drum as a child, but he will not wear hearing aids. He says the background noise bothers him too much. I never understood that, and even now that I wear a hearing aid myself, I still don't understand. When background noise becomes a problem, I just turn the volume down on my hearing aid. For example, My car is not very quiet, so I turn down the hearing aid and turn up the stereo when I'm driving alone. Easy enough for me! The manufacturer (mine is made by Siemans) usually has a 30 day trial period if the hearing aid doesn't work out for you, you can return it for full refund. I say, give it a try! It sure beats missing out on everyday conversations and great movies! (oh, one more thing--cats love to chew on little hearing aids--always keep it in it's case when not in your ear! I learned the hard way!) Peace to All Joyce S.
Guest guest
Thank you Joyce, I find myself having to ask people to repeat because I just cannot hear what they have said. I gather yours are digital? My insurance does not cover hearing aids at all so want to be sure. I do understand that I will have to get used to them. I know that my problem is from the CMT2 that I have been diagnosed with at the clinic at Wayne State Univ. in Michigan. Of course there is not a DNA for that one!!!! Glad to know that this type of loss can be helped with the hearing aid. Thanks............jeanann
Guest guest
Hi Jill, My son is having an ABR on thurs. How old is your son? My son is 2.4 yrs. He is getting OT and ST. He had the tubes put in about 2 months ago. His ENT thinks he may need hearing aids also. I will keep you posted once I get the results back. By the way, can you tell what to expect? I know they sedate him, and how soon did you get the results. Thanks. Lizzi --- Jill Valdez <jmv_weinc@...> wrote: > Lucas just had his follow up visit after his tonsil, > adnoid and tube surgery.
