Guest guest
Ron, About my diet--I followed Atkins plus reading other books about low carb alternatives. It works well and is, at least for me, not that hard to maintain. That said, it does require discipline, effort, and the occasional relapse. As I said in my first email, I occasionally treat myself to a carb binge at a Mexican restaurant. Here is a big suggestion--DO NOT GIVE UP ON EXERCISE!!! I can no longer lift heavy weights so I do light ones and swim. My sister, who is 68, and has a more severe version of CMT than I do, started--yes, started, an exercise program , swimming at the YWCA, at the age of 62 when she retired. It was getting difficult for her to walk across the room, get out of the bath tub, get up if she fell, etc. Now she does all of those things with much greater ease and self confidence. I saw her yesterday and she informed me that she is starting on Nautilus equipment for upper body strength!! I am convinced that swimming is, by far, the very best exercise for CMT folks. If you need help getting to and from the pool--swallow your pride and ask for assistance. Good luck with your diet and maintaining your mobility.
