Guest guest
Hi Welcome to the list! I haven't been there since the very late '70s/very early '80s. Nice place. Well worth the drive back then. Any interest in bicycle riding? If he's willing to do something as hard on the body as baseball & basketball, bicycling will be a lot easier on the joints plus it'll do wonders for his legs & endurance. If he/you are willing to pay a little more for " clipless pedals " and good bicycling shoes, you can get even more benefits for your feet & legs. In a nutshell, the same folks who make ski boot bindings developed the know-how to reduce the mechanism for bicycles. Not only can you push down on the pedals but you can pull up with one foot while pushing down with the other. Releasing from the pedals is easily done by quickly turning your foot to one side. Does wonders for the legs & ankles plus you can stretch your legs by pushing your heel downward while riding (the ball of your foot is still 'attached' to the pedal). I sometimes stretch before I ride by leaning on a wall, face to the wall, pushing my heels downward and holding it for a few seconds. Other times, while coasting, I stretch on the bike. I've ridden very little the past 2-3 years. I've just gotten back on my beloved Peugeot bicycle and I'm surprised at how quickly my ankles have gotten stronger! For some time now, I've been walking about 2-3 hours/week playing disc golf but it's not an anerobic workout like bike riding. (I'm 44 and...uh...a bit overweight thanks to a job that involves a LOT of sitting.) Feel free to contact me off the list if you have any questions or comments. Hope this helps, Joe
