Guest guest Posted January 6, 2005 Report Share Posted January 6, 2005 Stop the spread of HIV in India: Challenging positions available with PATH’s “Project Tarang” The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Avahan Initiative aims to dramatically slow the spread of HIV in India through a major investment in focused, integrated and scaled prevention efforts in six key States. The Foundation is working with some of the most renowned public health and HIV/AIDS NGOs from India and around the world achieve its goals. PATH, an international NGO with offices in India, is committed to improving the health of people around the world by advancing health technologies, strengthening systems and encouraging healthy behaviors. PATH has been selected by the Gates Foundation to play a key role in the Avahan Initiative, providing technical leadership and coordination support to other Avahan partners in the field of inter-personal communication (IPC) to promote HIV/AIDS prevention and health-seeking behaviors amongst key populations, especially sex workers. PATH’s work in the Avahan Initiative is known as “Project Tarang”, or “ripple”. PATH invites applications from suitable candidates for the following positions with Project Tarang. While HIV/AIDS expertise is welcome, PATH is also keen to attract applicants with a strong IPC background in other health and development issues, especially with training and technical support expertise in methodologies such as community theatre, dialogue-based communications and communications for social change. 1. Director: Project Tarang, based in New Delhi. The Director will provide overall leadership to Project Tarang and will participate in PATH’s senior management team in India. The Director will be the performance leader of at least three key Tarang staff: two Associate Directors and Coordinator: South (these positions have already been recruited). The successful candidate will be a recognized leader in communications for social change, inter-personal health communication and/or HIV/AIDS. Energetic, charismatic and creative, the Director will be responsible for leading and inspiring not just the Project Tarang staff team but the entire Avahan family to ensure rapid, wide-scale implementation of effective and innovative IPC methodologies with sex workers and other key populations for HIV prevention. The Director: Project Tarang will report to PATH’s India Country Director, Mr O’Malley. Requirements: At least ten years of relevant work experience and demonstrated success at project, staff and budget management; experience in leading technical assistance projects and in donor relations would be a significant advantage. 2. Project Managers (2 positions) based in Mumbai and the North-East (Gawahati, Manipur or Nagaland): Senior level positions reporting to Tarang team in New Delhi. They will contribute to the development and design of the Tarang project in the Maharastra and North Eastern states of Manipur and Nagaland to ensure its successful implementation. The positions will work closely with the larger Tarang project team and oversee all Tarang activities in their respective states, providing technical assistance, training, monitoring project performance, overcoming obstacles and resolving problems. Requirements: At least 7 years relevant work experience, experience in training and/or technical assistance provision, skills in IPC or related communications for social change methods, project management experience. 3. Project Manager: Quality Assurance and Partner Coordination (QAC) (1 position) based in New Delhi – Working with the Associate Director-QAC, this position will be responsible for designing and promoting tools for IPC quality assurance and participatory monitoring; for identifying opportunities and facilitating exchange of IPC lessons amongst Avahan partners; and for documenting and promoting good practice in IPC. Requirements: At least 4 years relevant experience including work on HIV prevention, significant experience in health or development related quality assurance or participatory monitoring, high proficiency in information technology and international-level documentation skills. 4. Project Officers (3 positions) based in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai. These positions will contribute to the design and management of Tarang project in their respective states in consultation with Regional Manager (South) based on Bangalore to implement state-of-the-art behavior change communication (BCC) strategies and ensure their successful completion consistent with donor requirements and PATH’s mission. Requirements: At least 4 years relevant work experience, experience in training and/or technical assistance provision, strong skills in IPC or related communications for social change methods. 5. Project Administrator (1 position) based in New Delhi: This senior administrative position will assist the Project Director in project implementation by assuring program strategies, activities, budgets and expenditures meet grant requirements and conform to PATH policies. The position will also provide high level IT support to the project for implementation of its activities. Requirements: At least 10 years experience preferably with an international NGO, a business degree with specialization in financial management, and proficiency in information technology. All positions (except No.5) require master’s degree or equivalent experience in communications, public health, development or other relevant discipline. All must have excellent oral and written communication skills, high computer proficiency, an ability to work in multi-cultural environment, and a strong commitment to hard work and high quality.
