Guest guest
Just a bit about myself. I am 52 yrs old and retired registered nurse. I was diagnosed 3yrs ago, when I started getting pins and needles in my hands and feet also getting a 'bee sting' pain in my neck. My GP sent me for a nerve conduction test which confirmed my CMT type 1a. I looked it up and the light bulb came on in my head. Finally after all these years I realised why I kept falling down especially when tired, why I was never any good at climbing stiles, riding a bike and my balance was bad. That is why I was so fatigued. I took early retirement from nursing because I was put it bluntly 'knackered'!. Now I know why. If I knew my diagnosis then I would have taken medical retirement and my money would have been better. But hay-ho, no good to dwell on the past. I now know I need to pace myself as to stop falling over. I realise I need a walking stick if I climb stairs without a bannister, I felt a right 'plonker' the other evening, went with a friend to the cinema and because I had been sitting down for two hours, my balance let me down and I fell down some steps!. I have two rescued dogs, Sophie Sue and Becky Boo, both ex cruelty cases.I try to give them a walk daily. I am also an artist. I support animal rights and I don't feel happy about researchers testing on mice in my name!. I am glad I found this site as any info, on CMT I can get the better.
