High protein, low carb diet?

I'm wondering if anyone else has tried a high protein, low carb diet and found

any

difference in the way they feel. I have noticed when I eat a lot of protein and

low carbs,

(steak and eggs for breakfast), I seem to have more energy and feel stronger

than on days

when I opt to eat heavy carbs like pancakes or something.

,

I went on a low carb diet and lost considerable weight, 40lbs.. I felt good

most of the time--occasional weakness from not enough food. Since losing

the weight and returning to " normal " eating I have gained a few pounds, but

generally still doing Ok. In general I feel much better when eating lower

carbs and more protein. I could never be a vegetarian. Whenever I decide

to load up on carbs at, say, a Mexican restaurant, I feel sluggish and

sleepy almost immediately. Once in awhile, that's OK, but I really cannot

function and eat that way often. I am a psychologist and need to stay alert

to listen to my clients--no can do and eat too many carbs. By the way, for

those of you who are talking about working and CMT, I was fortunate in

choosing my occupation. At 57, I plan to retire soon after 30 years working

as a psychologist in various setting and having been employed for the last

few years as a team leader supervising 14 other therapists. I feel

incredibly lucky in spite of facing surgery soon. If you know your kids are

going to be facing these problems, try steering them toward occupations such

as mine. Good luck.

Tom: I have a question for you. The low carb diet you talk about, what was it

exactly - organized or self developed? You and I are about the same age (even

though you are yet a child being a year younger than me-LOL). I'm now in the

sedentary stage of CMT/HNPP and need to loose about the same amount you did. Of

course, I have seen, heard, and even read about all the fatuitous diets out

there these days claiming massive quantities of weight loss. The caveat here is

that I'm not able to do the key ingredient to any diet be it low carb or

otherwise - exercise. So, not knowing your level of involvement with the

disease and not knowing how much exercise you incorporated into your diet

regimen, leaves me to ask the question, is it possible for a guy like me, based

on your experience, to realize relatively good and healthy weight loss through

the dietary discipline you used?

It's been my premise that the additional body weight I've acquired since 1997 is

exacerbating pressure on nerves. If I were to loose an appropriate amount of

weight, then, at the very least, I would be healthier, more able to slow the

progression, and release undue pressure on nerves.

40 love - your serve.
