Do kombucha and water kefir need to be separated from each other? I make KT and

milk kefir and they have to be separated. I am curious about adding any further

ferments to my life because of space. I live in a single wide trailer, so I have

to spread into other rooms if I add any new ferments.

house and home! I don't know why they grow so amazingly fast! I am not doing

anything special and really feel that I kind of ignore them, but they double

every single week despite all my efforts to get rid of them. I have 15 jars of

grains on my counter which means I have about 30 cups of grains that need a new

home. I almost wish they would only grow as fast as the milk grains which isn't

very fast at all.

Mine double in a cycle or two, but I am happy about it because I need all the

probiotics I can get; so I swallow them like vitamins.

I am having a problem with my water kefir grains growing. They have only grown

very little. Is it because my home is not warm enough?

I would appreciate any comments.

I have a septic tank too but don't grow my water kefir grains anymore as it

caused my Candida to really take hold of my digestion. Instead I use the milk

kefir and don't drink straight milk anymore as I'm wanting to maximize my

probiotic intake.

Now, how do you know that your drains and toilets like the water kefir grains?

I think my septic tank probably needs some good guys.

Extra WKGs

I know how you feel. I've given/sold away so many and I still have about

2/3 of a gal. jar full of dried ones, and I have 2 gallon jars and a smaller jar

going! I was reading on this forum about the good they do when put down drains,

and even though they were talking about MKGs, I decided to try it with WKGs.

The toilet loves them (we have a septic tank! The bathtub prefers MKGs, but the

sink drains don't have a preference. Do you have pets? Our dogs LOVE the

grains. Cats are pickier. If all else fails, the compost likes them, too.

Ours works a lot faster when we add extra grains to it.

According to Cultures for Health, they need to be separated by at least 3 feet.

Just flush a handful! You might have to do it on a regular basis. I usually go

by plunger usage. When things start slowing down; add another handful. The

drains get treated the same. It seems that with the kitchen drain, no matter

how hard I try, things go down the drain that I don't want. Not only does it

drain faster with the grains, it seems to make it smell better too.

That gets me wondering. Would you think that I could use kombucha scobys for

drains, too? Cut one up into small pieces and put it down the drain?
