Guest guest
Hi Rick; Wow! I can't believe it; a local on the list!! I live in Newport News and work at the VA Hospital hin Hampton. I have CMT Type 2. I am 34. I am fairly active; I ski, workout regularly, etc. My CMT effects me in the following wasy: I have a very high arch foot, hammer toes and can no longer stand on my toes or wear any sort of heels. I also don't doo too well with flip flops or shoes w/o backs unless they have a rim to them. My balance, especially standing balance, is not too good. If I walk a long distance (like 1/4 mile or more) or am very tired, I will have some foot drop (looks like I march when I walk). I started going to the gym regularly almost two years ago and that has helped me a lot in that I can walk much faster than I could in the past and also longer distances w/o my feet dropping. IMy hands are also a bit week and atrophied by the thumbs but that has only happened in the past five years or so. They are still pretty functional except for things like moving (I moved twice last year) - not too good w/ the grip for heavy items over long distances. My upper arm strength and thigh strength is great though and that seems to compensate a lot. As far as herbs and supplements, I take high doses of Vit C (as many others do on the list) since I heard about the positive results of C over the past few months. I also take Co Enzyme Q10, Complex B Vitamin and Vitamin E. I occasionally take a potassium tab (on days I don'/t have a banana). Lately, Ilve been alternating between the high doses of C and an organic multivitamin on some days and the C w/ the complex B and other vitamins on the other days (every other day). I also drink Green tea regularly. I'm working on being healthier and I have noticed a cifference in terms of energey levels and stamina. Again: Welcome! Peace, Marti
