Guest guest
WOW! You were daring to think you could get grains back that way. Good for you. If this had been more timely, I would have tried it myself. But my disappearing grains act happened last spring. I suppose you kept milk on them. But did you change that milk at all? I understand that the milk should be changed once a week-ish to be sure the grains get fed in the fridge. Did you do that? Lyn How long tdo Grains last in Fridge I don't post very much but I wanted to share my experience with refrigerated grains. I kept my grains in the fridge for almost a year. When I went back in to make more Kefir, they were gone. Dissolved away. In a last ditch effort I added a quart of organic whole milk to my cup of VERY fermented kefir (no grains mind you) A day later I had 3 Tablespoons of fat healthy grains. Like magic! Guest guest
I'm leaving home for a month and wondering how I can keep my kefir babies alive. Maybe I'll just leave them in some milk in the refrigerator and see what happens. I hate to kill them because they are so beautiful and healthy! Patty H. Guest guest
I have left grains in milk in Texas fridge for 5+ month and they recovered nicely. I will have left them (I live in WA) now for almost a year--we will see how well they hibernated next week as I am flying south next week. Also, I put grains in my checked baggage in a stainless steel water bottle with a tag--Kefir (yoghurt) grains in here. They get through security each time. Slocum > ** > > > WOW! Guest guest
Thanks . I now have hope. I would take them with me but we are driving and I can't keep them cold enough! Guest guest
Teresita: WOW! You were daring to think you could get grains back that way. Good for you. If this had been more timely, I would have tried it myself. But my disappearing grains act happened last spring. By what you say, you kept milk on them. But did you change that milk at all? It is my understanding that the milk should be changed once a week-ish to be sure the grains get fed in the fridge. Did you do that or anything similar to that? Are your grains still there today?
