Guest guest
Moni, If your grains are still producing a good product then I would think they are okay for the immediate future. You may want to try new grains; but, keep them separate from the old and see if they grow. Sounds like you are using raw milk otherwise you wouldn't be able to remove cream...if you are not, then raw milk will make a difference for the good. If you are in the South Texas area I can give you some grains as mine grow like crazy. I too have an autoimmune thyroid issue. I was diagnosed with Graves 15 years ago only to find out last year I never had it but Hashimoto's autoimmune hypothyroidism...so my thyroid was zapped with radiation in error because I was in a thyroid storm that the doctors never checked for. I have found that the kefir really does help with the issues the condition brings (along with a good diet and supplements). I too have had issues with excema but only over the past year...I developed the autoimmune excema called pompholyx on some of my fingers. The kefir (both milk and water) have helped a lot as well as taking Schuessler's Cell salt #12 Silicia...all of which I take internally and I apply externally when flair ups occur. Wishing you continued improvement in health! -
Guest guest
Hi , I was reading your post about you having Graves and then Hashimotos, and how your thyroid was fried with radiation. I'm happy to tell you that there is hope to restore the function, possibly fully, with a nutritional supplementation. Bell, homeopath on naturalnews radio, has talked about this person several times and how her thyroid was fried with radiation and she was put on synthetic thyroid medication (not sure right off hand which one she was taking) for 25 years. When she started detoxing and this nutritional program, she was able to restore her thyroid function fully and is completely off thyroid meds. I don't have the show date right now because I'm needing to work on tax stuff, but if anyone is interested in hearing the show, send me a private message and I will get you the show date and time. Guest guest
Hi Moni, To get a fizzier kefir, leave the strained kefir out on the counter with a tight lid. This will make it more tart and create the natural carbonation. But I warn you, you may want to relieve the pressure on the jar bar loosening up the lid at least once a day as I lost a couple jars by the pressure building up and cracking the jar. Maybe I just didn't have enough room in the jar but the jars cracked so I relieve the pressure every once in a while. As far as your exzema on your face, that is because of the probiotics. Treat stomach viruses with probiotics http://www.naturalnews.com/030572_probiotics_stomach.html Al Should I get some more MKG? Since mine aren't growing, but producing a nice product, I only wish it was a bit " fizzier " , I wonder if I should get some newer grains. Would that maybe " inspire " my grains to actually grow? BTW, the taste of my kefir, after 30+hours is very mild, slightly curdy especially if I leave cream in the milk, thickish but not buttermilk thick, slightly yeasty, everything that the websites say it should be. One last observation. When I began drinking it about 3ish weeks ago, I had the intestinal distress with the very dark bowels, that has since gone away unless I drink " young " culture. But what is very COOL, is I have had a rough patch of skin on my chin since I was in my 20s. I am certain it was mild excema. It's almost gone! And the texture of my skin is smoother, softer. I even think my hair is getting darker. Maybe that's a bit wishful, but still, something's happening. I've been noting all these changes because I also have an autoimmune disease that I try to control without conventional meds. I have been having a bit of an issue for about a year and was considering going back on meds. Kefir seems to be working on a deeper level than I expected and buthad hoped for, so I'm going to wait a while to see if it helps with the Graves. All of your comments have been greatly appreciated. Guest guest
I had been using ball jars with lids at first and then found a 2 qt sized canister jar with a flip top, lock-down lid and it has been great. This makes a tighter seal than a screw lid and the glass is really thick. So it handles the pressure, at least so far. This was another one of my great finds in my thrift shop escapades. So now I am keeping a lookout for another large one like this and I will be set. As for grains that won't grow, I had two sets like that when I started last year. They came from the same person and she had been making kefir for a year when I met her and she had no problems. After 10 months of disappointment, I decided I wanted new grains. Marble-sized, well established, already growing grains. I also wanted more than the usual tsp or Tbsp that so many people will only offer. I found someone locally who gave me 1/4 c of of grains and she included her largest grains after she heard my plight. That was back in January and they are doing well. They aren't " growing bigger " but they are multiplying all the time and I was quickly making more kefir than I can use, since I only know how to make smoothies for now. I saw no health improvement when I drank kefir last year, but my grains would only ferment about 10 oz at a time. But there's been health improvement with these new grains and probably the increased consumption of up to 5 cups a day. My nails on my right hand started growing. As I journey along this regaining-health road my nails all took off when I first started coconut oil. But this only lasted about 2 months and they slowly all broke again. Then in the last 8 months only my right hand has ever made any attempt at growth. They have broken because I am being Cinderella at my Dad's house since early March and have done alot of scrubbing. Kefir will pick back up now, tho, because the serious water slopping work that I did last month that broke those nails is over. I can already see new growth starting. Also, psoriasis that strangely showed up only since I have been detoxing, and that became the worst at the beginning of the year is now totally gone. I am grateful for that because it had gotten really bad this year. I also have to give some credit to clay because I started this a few weeks prior to this kefir, so both things together probably thrust something out of my temples. My hair loss, which stopped three days after beginning to take hydrated clay in Dec, is still stopped and my hair is noticably growing back. I do not see any scalp anymore no matter how hard I look. That lost hair is all growing back. Now I am working on my brain. It is still " hard to think " sometimes and I misplace things and forget doing things way too much. I am too young for that. Guest guest
Lyn, I was wondering if all that scrubbing you did was with gloves on and what you used for cleaning? Were they all non-toxic green cleaning chemicals or the usual cleaning products that most people who are not health conscious have in their homes? I don't know if you know this or not, but Silica is absolutely great for your hair and nails. It's also great for your cardiovascular system, connective system and muscular-skeletal system. An excellent quality, whole food supplement from Horsetail tea is Alta Silica. There is something called the Silica Challenge where you take 5000 mg of Silica a day (which is 10 caplets, which I'm sure can be broken up over 3 meals) to start off and then drop down to the maintenance dose of 3 per day. I don't know how long the Silica Challenge should go, I guess it depends on your wallet and how you feel. You can get it several places online for reasonable prices. http://www.vitacost.com/alta-health-products-silica-with-bioflavonoids Al Re: Should I get some more MKG? Guest guest
I wore gloves more than usual, but I still didn't keep them on enough. And I know about chemical cleaners. I had to work with what was here, tho. I have Odoban here that I used often but one has to realize what I did. I cleaned a house that burns coal and it only gets cleaned when I make the trek home. My visits were only 4 days long before and maybe 3 times a year. So I never could get it all done. So I had quite a gargantuan task on my hands when I came last month and knew I would be staying much longer this time. My nails broke chip by chip, so they were really resilient. They really never became stubs again. So they are strong, just worn. I never heard of the things you suggest. I am taking Diatomaceous Earth for silica, but that never really helped me. I just keep taking it because it's here and maybe someday it will kick in. I recently started taking collagen and biotin. These two have shown the most instant benefit because my face is younger. Significantly less crows feet. I would say I look 30 now from the nose up -- my crows feet stretched down into my cheeks before. Now they are just at my eyes. So now I have shaved off about 20 years. I still have stubborn laugh lines that are untouched, tho. I really want to get my brain clearer. I know the brain needs fat and I have started consuming more variety of fats from s Seed Oil Co. Rawfoodworld.com had a great sale on these pricey oils, so I got the set. I want to get back, somehow, to taking more coconut oil but it is hard when the oil gets solid for 8 months out of the year. I need it to stay liquid. That is the easiest form for me to take it in but I haven't figured out how to do that yet. Lyn Re: Should I get some more MKG? Guest guest
Hi Lyn, Yes, food grade DE has silica in it but it's not the whole food form of silica, but it is great for a lot of different things, including absorbing toxins, viruses, heavy metals and darug residues. Silica (silicon) in its proper form is very helpful for your brain in addition to the connective tissue in your skin (anti-aging), cardivascular system and build bone much more effectively than calcium. Discover silica's anti-aging and heavy metal detox properties http://www.naturalnews.com/034756_silica_anti-aging_heavy_metals.html#ixzz1rg3RX\ XYd You may also want to listen to the Bell show on 6/23/11 during hour 2 where and Barr states that studies show that consuming more than 750-800 mg of calcium actually leads to increased risk of bone fractures. More important is the consumption of whole food silicon. Scroll down to find the show to listen. http://naturalnewsradio.com/Archive-Bell.asp http://www.choosetobehealthy.com/alta-silx-silica-count-free-ship-recommended-ch\ ris-barr-p-215.html http://www.thenhf.com/article.php?id=781 As far as coconut oil goes...I LOVE IT!!! I use it in a lot of different ways in addition to Omega-3 fatty acids, of which I take 3000mg every day. How I use the coconut oil, I cook my eggs, potatoes, stir-fry, etc, add it to my oatmeal in which I soak first (which releases the nutrients), I put it in my smoothies, I make an awesome chocolate truffle treat, eat it straight and also use it as a moisturizer on my face and body after my shower. It all adds up. It also reduces the fat around your mid-section when you consume at least 3 TBS of coconut oil every day. My husband puts it in his green tea. Here is my awesome Chocolate Truffle Recipe... 2 TBS organic Raw Cacao powder 2 TBS organic shredded coconut 2 TBS organic virgin coconut oil (can be melted by putting in a glass jar and placed in warm water for a few minutes) 1 Tsp organic Raw Honey (heaping) 1 Tsp organic vanilla Add all ingredients to a bowl and stir. Place in the refrigerator for about 3 minutes to harden up and then use the shape of your 1 Tsp measuring spoon to scoop up the mixture and place on a plate and refrigerate to harden. I don't usually bother shaping it unless I'm serving it to others, otherwise, I just eat it out of the bowl. It's very rich and yummy and another way to add coconut oil to your diet.
