Guest guest
, That is simply not true. They are interchangeable. I can tell you haven't tried water kefir grains in milk. Within three days you cannot tell kefir made from real milk kefir grains or from water grains. They change their flora according to their terraine. I have not tried WKG in pasteurized milk so I do not know if that works, too. Sugar water with MKG is a little different. Seems to be stronger flavored; but I kept mine going for 18 months then adopted them out. And of course, the milk kefir grains did not grow. But the WKG turned into milk kefir grains complete with kefiran, which makes me wonder where MKG really came from. Wild idea eh? Guest guest
Marilyn, I love being corrected. This is how I learn. So, the water kefir grains can be put in milk and they will adapt/evolve, but the milk kefir grains put in sugar water will not adapt/evolve. Did I get that right. and Katrina Bird's Incredibly Lucky Daddy From: marilynjarz@... Date: Sun, 21 Aug 2011 09:52:47 -0400 Subject: Re: Grains , That is simply not true. They are interchangeable. Guest guest
The milk kefir grains put into a water medium will still ferment whatever...but they are done as far as growing or transforming into anything. Guest guest
Water kefir grains work in pasturized homogenize and non homogenized milk. The resulting kefir has a different consistency, and the flavor is that of homemade yogurt. In all the time I have been doing this I have had a couple different kinds of water grains, in that they look different and the w grains actually perform differently. I got both sets of grains from different people. My water grains also did not multiply in milk. Have never tried to alter milk grains. Guest guest
I've had the worst problem with New Zealand and then Australia in getting kefir grains into the country. No other countries in the whole world give me any trouble. Guest guest
To the guy I bought my grains from. I found out why I didn't receive them when I used pay pal. I spelled chenango wrong. I typed chenwngo st., with a w, instead. It couldn't go to a place that didn't exist. What I want to know is where the h--- did it go. It should have come back to you. Anyhoo, the grains are doing fine. -- P. allAn AKA redknight
