Guest guest
Here is a fine mesh plastic strainer that works great. They have different sizes, but you don't want smaller than the 5 1/2 " so it can hold more kefir to strain at one time. I just tap the strainer on the side of the 8 cup measuring cup and the kefir goes right through within seconds, no matter how thick it is. http://www.amazon.com/HIC-Brands-Cook-Strainer-7-Inch/dp/B0042X9XAY/ref=sr_1_1?i\ e=UTF8 & qid=1338492863 & sr=8-1 Al a few questions from a newbe Hi I'm new to Kefir and I have used a dry one to start off but you speak of another one and I'm unsure about this. I am in Western Australia and was wondering if I asked on the group if anyone is near me, is allowed. I do feel better taking the one I'm using as I have become more regular and not so much constipation and have lost a couple of kilos. I'm trying to read all I can to understand how this works. I have looked through the posting but also want to know how you stain your Kefir, I have tried but now I just take a glass out and use that to start my new one and it seems to work OK? Where can I find this information please? I know you get a lot of mail so I'm sorry to add to it but unsure what I can post on site. Guest guest
I use a 3-1/2 inch fine mesh nylon strainer, because I strain from a 10 oz. glass into a 16 oz. glass, and the 3-1/2 inch strainer fits perfectly in the glass. I also tap the strainer if it gets full so the kefir can drain through. Choose the strainer that fits your needs, according to the size of the vessels you use. From: ouched63188@... Guest guest
I use the 5 1/2 inch because I culture 1/2 gallon mason jar. There is usually not a huge amount of money difference between the sizes and it allows you strain more at a time if you end up cultureing a larger quantity. It could save you time too as the smaller one will limit you and take more time if you culture more. Here is a 4 " one for less. http://www.amazon.com/Norpro-Mesh-Strainer-Plastic-Handle/dp/B000SSQXRI/ref=sr_1\ _9?s=home-garden & ie=UTF8 & qid=1338523613 & sr=1-9 Al a few questions from a newbe Hi I'm new to Kefir and I have used a dry one to start off but you speak of another one and I'm unsure about this.
