Guest guest
Thank you ever so much for this post. It led to my finding a recipe for One Eyed Jacks aka egg in a hole. I only enjoyed them once before in my life as a teenager. I am now 73 so you can see how long ago that was. Boy does that bring back memories. I shall be having one eyed jacks in a few days when I go grocery shopping. If anyone is interested, this is the url. http://www.cookinggodsway.com/one-eyed-jacks-aka-egg-in-the-hole/ YUMMY YUMMY! Guest guest
The markup on the cost of the lids on every site I've seen is very high. I don't know where to get the FDA approved natural rubber gasket. I usually stay away from FDA approved things. The Tattler lids may be BPA free, but I read on another website that they actually had formaldehyde in them...it's not only BPA that is toxic, there are other toxic things. What I plan on doing is buying the rubber seals for the glass jars and put them in the white plastic BPA free lids if they will fit. I've never tried, but will go to the store later today to see if they will fit. Then I will use the jars and just keep the food from touching the lid or rubber seals. Guest guest
Al, Yes, the Tattler lids do contain formaldehyde, but as you can look on their site, you have to heat the plastic caps to over 450F for it to start to be released (the chemical bond broken), vs BPA just being released by liquid contact. Quite different. You CAN order just the Tattler rings if you like. I do try to avoid certain things when they are easy to avoid and I know about them. But you can't avoid them all, so I tend to spend more time enjoying what I'm doing, rather than worrying about what might happen. I'm sure when I was younger and changed my own oil in my car I probably absorbed more toxins through my skin than I did in total the 3 months in between. Let me know how the seals work if you try them. I can't for the life of me figure out why Ball doesn't have something for those white lids. They really are quite useless for anything liquid. Guest guest
The white lids are only meant for dry items, not wet. It would be great if they made a white plastic lid with the rubber seal in them, not the same rubber as in the metal lids. I've always wanted to ask Ball why they started putting BPA in their lids. Did they decide to do it on their own or were they told to do it or did the chemical companies force them to do it? I wonder if the metal lids always had the BPA in them. Of course its not the only chemical that may be in it, its just the one that got the most press. As far as absorbing the toxins from oil, I'm sure you did and all the other chemicals, cleaners and beauty products that people use every day. These are all toxic to the body and will reflect in our health. Detox to get them out of your body and stop using them. You can clean and disinfect your whole house without using chemicals by using baking soda, white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, Borax, and castile soap. None of these will add to your body toxin burden. If you choose to use harsh chemicals, you may experience health problems in the near future or 20 years down the road. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/02/26/how-to-keep-your-h\ ome-clean-naturally.aspx For me, after I threw away all the toxic beauty products and chemical cleaners, my health improved and a lot of my symptoms were reduced. But being former military, I still have a lot of work to do to pull the mercury out of my body. Guest guest
I just got off the phone a little while ago with Ball. Come to find out, they sold out of the food preservation division of their company 20 years ago. They sold out to Jarden, who is allowed to use the Ball name. I also called Jarden and asked them about the BPA in the metal lids and she didn't have an answer for me except to take my name and number and give it to someone to call me back. I'm sure this would be some scripted info from a lawyer why the chemical BPA is sooooo good for us and is not toxic. While I had Jarden on the phone, I also asked her about the BPA free plastic lids and if they could make them with rubber seals and she said she can only submit the suggestion.
