Guest guest
I'm wanting to mail kefir grains to a friend who lives across the country. I'm new to making kefir and I've never mailed the grains before. What is the best way to prepare the grains and package them for mailing? Do I put them in regular mail, or go with expedited? Thanks! ~Naomi Fournier, CC, CL Enderby, British Columbia, Canada Birdsong Farm http://naomisbirdsongfarm.webs.com/ Enderby WAPF Chapter http://enderbywap.webs.com/ ________________________________
Guest guest
Hello Naomi, When you are ready to mail the grains first rinse them throughly in non clorinated water and drain them well. Do not add any type of milk or other liquid. Then place the grains in a zip lock baggie and that bag in another baggie and finally the double bagged grains in a thrid zip lock baggie. You will triple bag them. I get the small priority box from the post office and put them in there. Then I just take the box to the post office. They ship priority rate. Hope this helps. Guest guest
YOU WANT TO GET A 18 OUNCE WATER BOTTLE AND PUT ABOUT 2 TABLESPOONS OF KEFIR, AND ABOUT 80-90% OF MILK INTO THE BOTTLE.SQUEEZE OUT ALL THE AIR, AND WHILE STILL SQUEEZING THE BOTTLE, PUT ON THE LID. THAT WILL HELP THE KIFER MILK NOT TO EXPLODE ON ITS TRANSITION.SEND IT EXPRESS IF POSSIBLE.  MRS. Guest guest
I mail mine very differently. I place what quantity I will be sending in 1 small ziplock plastic baggie and add about 1/4 cup of milk. Squeeze the air out and put that baggie in another small ziplock baggie and squeeze out the air. Then I put it in the small priority box from the USPS with some newspaper wrapped around. As far as I know, all the people I've sent the grains to have received them successfully without any explosions and the grains have done very well. Guest guest
You might want to use upper and lower case letter as using all caps is like yelling at someone.
