Guest guest
I may have murdered one of mine also but in a worse way I think. It sat for days in a bowl I had use to catch kefir after it passed thru the strainer. It is about 3/8 of an inch in size and is now resting in fresh milk, store bought 2%. I will wait three days then test it. If it taste like kefir the critter somehow survived. It shouldn't spoil in the frig, so any sour taste would have to come from the grain. jim allAn AKA. redknight On 1/29/2012 5:05 PM, wrote: > I've been happily making my kefir since last June. Guest guest
Just your routine again. You may have to waste a batch or two, I bet they come back. Ilyse
Guest guest
I bet you didn't kill them. Just start your routine again. You might have to waste a batch or two, but I bet they revive. I've inadvertently and lazily left mine. I've even accidentally thought I threw them out and found them in the sink drain a day later. They always have come back within a cycle or two. Guest guest
Hmmm...OK, I'll give it another go. I still have them. Thanks. In the meantime, if there is anyone in the Chicago area that has some so I could use that as a back up plan, that'd be great. > > > > I've been happily making my kefir since last June. Guest guest
You know, I was thinking about getting some water kefir grains, actually. I actually did manage to revive my kefir grains (yippee!). While posting my message on here, I saw someone post something about making kefir with coconut milk. I thought, Oooo, that sounds good. I tried it and it was DELICIOUS! But, someone said they saw Marilyn say it's better to use water kefir grains for that...any idea if that is true since you obviously have experience with water kefir grains? Second question...do you use a lot of sugar to make water kefir? I've hesitated to try it because I am counting calories and am losing weight. And don't want to interfere with that. I actually had struggled with fertility issues for over 2 years and after drinking kefir, was able to lose weight so successfully. The weight loss fixed my fertility issues, and I got pregnant, but had a miscarriage in August. I was devastated and it hasn't been in me to diet all this time until about a month ago. I need to continue losing weight in order to succeed in getting pregnant again...so I truly mean that I MUST count calories and watch it because there is a lot at stake. > > > > > > I've been happily making my kefir since last June. Guest guest
Drinking water kefir put pounds on me, but I was drinking a quart a day. I didn't connect the weight to kefir until someone on this forum mentioned that water kefir had made her gain. Then I cut down to a cup a day and the mystery pounds went away. When I make WK, I use only 2 heaping T sugar per 3 cups of water. - > > > > > > > > I've been happily making my kefir since last June. Guest guest
I just got some Kefir on Friday and wondered if I could use Coconut milk in it. I am a complete novice at this and am a little scared. I put the box in my fridge on Friday and that is as far as I have gotten...............
