Guest guest
I got my grains on Thursday of last week. I put them yesterday in a mason jar covered with a cloth napkin tied attached with a rubber band. I used about 2 cups of milk. All I have is sour milk. It seems like a bit has happened at the bottom of the jar around the grains themselves. Should I leave them for another day or drain them and add fresh milk? Thanks, Nikky
Guest guest
I would filter them and place in new milk. They are probably a bit out of whack from the shipping. Also, If it were me, I would use a coffee filter instead of the cloth napkin. david On -Sun, Apr 29, 2012 at 7:38 PM, nikabe <nikky.oberdas@...> wrote: > I got my grains on Thursday of last week. Guest guest
I think all the newbys ask this same exact question so you are not alone. Give it some more time and check it every couple hours during waki g time. When you see pockets if whey form all around the jar its time to strain. There is also an adjustment time for the grains to get used to the new milk. You glcan strain and drink the milk if you want, there is no harm in doing so. Guest guest
Hi Nikky, It took my grains a good 2 months before they started making proper kefir. I was very impatient about it. I tried all sorts of different things, and got lots of different answers to my question but all they needed was time to adjust. I would recommend that you just strain them and give fresh milk every day, and try to be patient.
