Guest guest
Hello, everyone. My name is Kim Huse, and I live in the Dallas/Forth Worth area in Texas. We moved here from Mo last year; my husband is a born and bred DFW Texan, so it was just a matter of time before we came back. A bit of backgropund on me: I'm in my 40's, happily married, and I am on a mission to get my health back on track. My family used to raise milk goats; we had Nubians, La Manchas, Saanens, Alipnes and Nigerian dwarves, so I am familiar with good milk handling techniques and how to make home made cheeses and such; that was back in the 1980's, and befoire we had the internet, so I didn't know about kefir then, or I would have been making that as well. I just this last week found out about kefir, and kefir grains....I was lucky enough to find bottled for consumption kefir at our local Aldi's, believe it or not; its flavored with bueberry juice; its okay, but I would really like to just have the plain kefir. I'm hoping that some one in the DFW area has some grains to share so that I can start making my own kefir; I would also like to find a good source for raw goats milk; I really do miss having some goats milk in the fridge... I REALLY like the sour taste of buttermilk made from cow's milk like my grandmother used to make...and I can tell with the store bought kefir I have, the underlying taste is the exact same taste as what my grandmother made. I am also looking forward to making some kefir cheese; I have not found a cows milk cottage cheese here under any brand that I like... I am also interested in working with the water kefir grains, too; but I want to get the milk grains going first. One step at a time... I am looking forward to being on this list and findoing out about kefir and how to care for it and how to cook with it; looking forward to using it for pancakes and muffins for sure!; Thank you for approving me to be on this list! So, I suppose my first 2 questions were kind of covered int my introduction: Does anyone here in the DFW area have any grains to share..or know where I can get grains from? And where can I find Grade A goats milk? Thanks! -- Kim Huse
