Goat milk questions

I have been making my kefir with cow milk. However, I just really prefer

drinking goat milk. I prefer the taste, and it seems that my stomach does much

better with it. I don't even use cow milk for anything anymore except making

kefir and yogurt. I use almond milk for almost everything (baking, cereal,

making ice cream, etc.), and if I do drink straight milk, it is goat milk. And

I'd really love to switch to making my kefir with goat milk. Or, really, I'd

just like to eliminate cow milk from my kitchen entirely...not because I think

it is a horrible thing to drink. I just don't digest it as well as goat milk.

However, I live in the city of Chicago, and the closest place where I can get

raw goat milk is not close enough to be practical.

But, the only goat milk that I can find in the store is ultra-pasteurized. Is

there store bought goat milk that is not ultra-pasteurized? Does this exist?

Also, does anyone know if you can make yogurt with goat milk? I'd assume so? Is

it important that it is not ultra-pasteurized for yogurt making?

I'm a newbie here, but I have bought goat milk at Trader Joe's.  I don't know if

they have TJ's in Chicago, but I looked everywhere on the container when I was

purchasing, and nowhere does it say Ultra Pasteurized or high temp, just

pasteurized.  And though they don't have raw milk, they do have 2% with cream on

top cow milk, that is not ultra-pasterized.

I too would like a closer source for raw milk.  I did go the distance to pick up

my wonderful MKG's (Thank you ) but if all goes well that is a one time

deal!  I did put a portion in the freezer.  And if I can stop eating the extra,

I will also freeze some grains for backup! :)

Hmmm...I thought I checked at Trader Joe's a while back, but maybe I missed

it...I'll check again. Thanks! We have TJ's all over Chicago.

I don't think moving to Eugene, Oregon would be too practical for my life, lol.

In Illinois, they have such strict rules for selling raw milk, it is ridiculous.

Talk about trying to squelch small farm farmers! It is legal to sell raw milk,

but it is illegal for places that sell raw milk to advertise it! It is also

illegal to sell it in a container from the seller. I do occasionally buy raw cow

milk from a farm that is at least not too desperately far from me, and I have to

bring my own containers because it is illegal for them to sell it to me any

other way.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind bringing my own containers, and if the farm I

go to ran their business that way, I would have no problems agreeing to that. It

is more the point that they are forced to run their business that way that

bothers me. It's like laws were purposely made for no other purpose than to make

it very difficult to sell raw milk. Sad.
