I have some milk kefir grains that are in milk in the frig. One jar is dated

12-17 2011, one is 1-20 2012 and one jar is 1-27-2011. I have not changed the

milk in the jars since I put them in. Will these still be good? If so, I would

be willing to give them to anyone that needs milk kefir grains...you would pay

only for shipping. I live in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area.

Thanks,

Edna London

one jar is over a year old. those grains have likely starved to death ...

unless you got the date wrong and meant 2012

The others " might " recover with some love, attention and coaxing but I

wouldn't mail them out to anyone. If it was me. The fridge stresses the

grains and the fact that the milk (food source) has not been changed in a

month or two or three means the grains have been deprived of food. So

between the stress of fridge and the stress of no food ...

that said they are generally pretty hardy and the ones that have been in

the fridge the least amount of time will probably recover if you take them

out and put them in fresh milk. They will probably need a few rounds of

24-48 hrs and milk changes before they start acting more normal though.
