Guest guest
Davy, Hope life is treating you well. Here are a couple of links to the RCS(England) site as they administer ATLS and PHTLS in the UK. PHTLS http://www.rcseng.ac.uk/cf/crs_dis2.cfm?CourseID=106 ATLS http://www.rcseng.ac.uk/cf/crs_dis2.cfm?CourseID=77 ATLS Instructor http://www.rcseng.ac.uk/cf/crs_dis2.cfm?CourseID=23 BTLS mailto:tony@... ALS in Stoke used to run all the above courses, but have now dropped them because of the paperwork required for the governing bodies. If you have any luck, please drop us a line. I know staffs amb train some of their Para's in PHTLS, but I think you have to be a member of the service. Am down with Anton this weekend and will ask. Guest guest
HI All, I suffered the other way. I'm an SRPara (and personally think it's a crock of...) anyway I teach for the US Air Force here in East Anglia in my spare time for free and by way of remuneration they put me through a PHTLS and my PHTLS Instructor. After I got my certificate from the NAEMT I went to my ambulance service training department to be told that the course was not recognised as it was not sponsored by the RCS in England. Therefore the 2 additional skills of needle crike and chest deco were not in my scope of practice. I had to send my certs to the RCS and get a reciprocal RCS cert issued that my service would recognise. My bitch was that the PHTLS course is the same anywhere in the world. You use the same text book etc..... the same guidelines for the exam so what's the problem. It seems it's all down to red tape and desk jockeys. Regarding paramedic registration all it does is cost me ?20 to be able to be crapped on by someone else if I get a complaint against me. It's like being held to ransom... If you don't register you cannot be employed within the NHS ambulance service and if you do private jobs on the side many of those stipulate that you must be registered too! Be good folks' Pete " fed up but I like the job but the army was better " Gosnell PHTLS Hi Steve, I'm suffering the registration problem as well. I was booked up on a PHTLS course with Staffs, but have just had word I can't do it, the reason being and I quote " " Unfortunately the Royal College of Surgeons of England which administers PHTLS courses has very strict guidelines as to who can take the course. As Sharon probably explained, the RCS will only be able to certify candidates who are one of the following: Ambulance Service personnel currently qualified to IHCD ambulance paramedic standard (i.e. currently working as a paramedic within the NHS) Nurse with current registration Fully registered medical practitioners I appreciate that your qualifications are very similar and do not doubt your skills but I am afraid we cannot make an exception. I can only recommend you to undertake a PHTLS course in the US, as their requirements differ from ours " " What complete garbage, so I can do it in the US at additional expense but not in the UK because and again it comes down to it I am not an NHS trained medic. Oh well, better start looking at the PHEC course then....... atb Ian Re: all is quiet > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Sorry did not mean to hit a nerve. > > > > > > > > > > If " paramedic " it is, what sort?
